Intermittent Korg DW-6000

Patient : Korg DW-6000. Symptoms : Came into possession with no factory patches, nor sound except for sweeping resonant filter and noise sounds. Attempted Resolution : Restored patches via sysex (and TAPE just to make sure). Both methods worked and the synth was alive again. After flipping the powe...

Re: Help fixing Boss DR-55 sequencer

I was able to make some progress. Turns out the "tech" I let hold onto my Dr-55 for well over a year removed R77 saying it was a mod. Well it wasn't, it's actually a 1K resistor that is suppose to go from IC1 Pin6 to Wire 6. This immediately made the sequencer start/stop properly. Programming patter...

Re: Help fixing Boss DR-55 sequencer

I have a Dr-55 with a somewhat similar issue. It's alway stuck on in play mode and always seems to have a rim shot playing in on every step. In write mode both switches trigger the sounds yet seem to write it to the memory. I can't erase steps when both triggers do this. When I switch back to Play m...

Re: Korg DW8000 not working, please help.

Thank you for the suggestion. Thankfully I do have a logic probe but have yet to have an opportunity to use it. I will try and follow the diagram to see if the CPU is at fault.

Re: Korg DW8000 not working, please help.

After reading through this thread again, I redid the battery job, dropped the added diode to the + terminal. Tested IC36, all of that area is getting 3V just fine. I also resoldered all of the connectors and examined the board closely for cracked solder joints. I also ended up cleaning the board but...

Re: Korg DW8000 not working, please help.

Hey all, Glad to hear some progress has been made! Fairly certain my unit does not have the Angel City mod, but I have fixed several E! equipped Yamaha DX7s in similar states with no problem. I bought this unit in this state. It had a battery replacement with a holder, I decided to redo it with an a...

Re: Korg DW8000 not working, please help.

I have followed this advice before and left on my unit over night with no change. My issue is that I can't even get the panel board to react. There's no way for me to get to say parameters 84-87. I know it sounds like a battery related issue, and it still might be, but I have had no luck after repla...

Re: Korg DW8000 not working, please help.

I tried to erase IC36 & 37 with a 220 Ohm resistor and still no luck.

Re: Korg DW8000 not working, please help.

Thank you for the continued advice Mooger5. I will try this later tonight and report back. In the mean time, here is a video showing the issue.

Re: Korg DW8000 not working, please help.

If you move the joystick around does this cause any change? It will make the characters radically change on mine. I was thinking to swap all the tactile switches with new one in hopes that this will allow me to do the 5 + 8 reset.

EDIT: Replaced all tactile switches, didn't seem to change anything.

Re: Korg DW8000 not working, please help.

Looks like I misread these voltages, my apologies. I'm getting around 4.8V at all of the the pins mentioned in this thread as of now. Still the same issue.

Re: ESQ-1 Sound Issues

I adjusted and reseated the CEM3360, honestly the pins look as if they're brand new. No luck. Both pin 10 and 5 read a range of -65.9mV-1.98V and it seems to adjust smoothly.

Re: ESQ-1 Sound Issues

I had it set to ENABLE = KEYS+CT+PC+SS+SX and MIDI Channel 1. I reviewed the manual a few times and it appeared I had all the settings setup correctly. I'll try with a different MIDI Interface.. however my computer received the Sysex dump from the ESQ-1 just fine.

Re: ESQ-1 Sound Issues

Tomas, I am currently in contact with Rutger for assistance. Thanks for the reminder. As far as MIDI hand shaking, the manual only says to connect MIDI Out from your interface to the ESQ-1 MIDI IN. It doesn't explicitly say to have it in a MIDI handshake. Sending patches from the synth while connect...

Re: ESQ-1 Sound Issues

I have successfully sent patches from the unit to Sysex Librarian via USB to MIDI. But when trying to load patches from Sysex Librarian the ESQ-1 immediately says "Target System Not Responding." So instead I loaded sounds off the ESQ Voice 80 cart. I should mention that when I can get a note to trig...
