Re: Casio FZ1

The new backlight for the FZ-1 arrived and I installed it. No dead rows of pixels! I also replaced the headphone jack which I had accidently broken - flimsy design.... I had replaced the disintegrating foam under the keys a while back. This FZ-1 is now in top shape! Next up, the HxC floppy emulator.

Re: Casio FZ1

So I am replacing the backlights in my 3 FZ units. I have a FZ-1, FZ-10M and FZ-20M. I did the FZ-20M and made it through without causing any dead pixels in the screen. You need to unsolder the leads to the backlight and then deal with the fact that there is a bit of rubbery glue behind the backligh...

Re: Mac Classic + TurboSynth possible?

Hi part12studios, I have a Mac Classic running System 6.07 that I use for Sound Designer for Emulator II. I believe Turbo Synth needs System 7 to run, so I haven't been able to use it since I have never upgraded my Mac to 7. I use MacDisk on a WinXP machine to move files from PC onto the Mac. The de...

Re: Casio FZ1

I still haven't fitted my FZ with an HxC but I plan to soon. I just got finished restoring my Emulator II with and HxC and PSU so that has been taking up my time. The HxC is not SCSI, just floppy. Speeds will be the same as a real floppy, unfortunately. The HxC has the advantage of very large amount...

Re: Casio FZ1

the keys are just a bit sticky because the foam rubber strip that the keys rest on is starting to go bad. I would like to replace that. I had the same problem for years. So last year or so I decided to do something about it. I went to a litttle shop downtown where they sell ship equipment and found...

Re: Casio FZ1

Hi James, Well I haven't yet purchased the HxC yet but I plan on still doing it. Did just buy a collection of FZ floppies off ebay, but they haven't arrived yet.. Your steps 1-5 look correct. But yes, once you have removed the actual floppy drive you face a dilemma. My solution will be based on the ...

Re: Casio FZ1

I'm working on making the FZ to FZ cable at the moment. I'll post how it comes out in a day or two.
About the DD disks, I have some with the holes drilled and they don't read. I will have the play with the ones I have some more though ...

Re: Casio FZ1

Thanks for all that info Robber, Since there is a bit of FZ love going on right now I thought I would post my experience with the sampler. I got my first Casio FZ-1 (1 Meg- no memory upgrade) new in 1989. The local music store was selling FZ-1s at a big discount because they had ordered too many of ...

Re: Casio FZ1

I didn't realize the FZ to FZ cable was different. So as Robber said, a good way to get dumps saved to HxC virtual disks would be to send dumps from one FZ to another FZ fitted with an HxC.

Re: Casio FZ1

Here are a few more Casio FZ-1 disks - Livewire. Only 6 disks, but that's all I've gotten ahold of.... http://www.mediafire.com/download/j96sooichf9odb9/Casio_FZ-1_Livewire_6_Disks.zip I'm working on getting every FZ-1 disk I have (my collection keeps growing) dumped to the computer. As of now I hav...
