Re: Korg Volca Sample (vs.) Korg Electribe ES-1

I have the ES-1. The SmartMedia cards require a little reader so you can hook it up to your PC via USB, but otherwise they are just like any flash media. Not the best standard, of course and out of date.

Re: Gear used by Heaven 17?

This is a cool interview with Martin Ware discussing how they recreated those sounds for live performances.

As I recall they used Fairlight synths.

Re: Royksopp's New (and possibly last) Record

"On 29 September 2014, Röyksopp announced that their next album, titled The Inevitable End, would explore darker subject matter with emphasis on the lyrical content, and would be their last LP, though they will not stop making music."

Re: M audio Venom vs Roland Gaia

Well, since the selector knob on my Venom has decided to start flaking out, I'm starting to form a very dim view of it. When you go to select a preset, it can skip patterns randomly so that you have to keep going back to try and find it. I've only had the thing two years and it is very well protecte...

Re: M-AUDIO VENOM-GHOST IN THE MACHINE

Did you try a soft reset? I had a lot of problems with my Venom and since doing a soft reset it has been very stable.
Press and hold both OCTAVE buttons simultaneously while powering Venom on. This won't erase your patches.

Re: Name some underrated/hated synths that you like

I used to have a DX-100. I modified one patch and it took quite a while to navigate the menus. Ultimately I got bored with it, but for a long while I liked it.

Re: Name some underrated/hated synths that you like

Yay! Both of my hardware synths made this list. I have an M-Audio Venom and an Alesis QS-7. Yeah, both were super cheap with the Venom being $200 brand new and the QS-7 being $240 used. Since the Venom is programmed to make dance music more or less, the QS-7 is a nice addition for more traditional s...

Re: New analog boxes from Korg?

I'm glad someone finally got these goddamend things and can now do a review and/or video. So stupid that they keep pushing the ship dates back. Yeah, not going to pay more than $150, sorry. As said before, that's the alure of the beast. I already have an Electribe ES-1. I just thought the Voka keys ...

Re: New analog boxes from Korg?

Sweetwater doesn't appear to make it clear that the units are not really shipping as of yet. Kinda lame if you ask me.

Re: Recommend me a good ROMpler

Welcome to the board! I'm a fan of the old Alesis QS series. Nice sounds, good effects, able to split and layer, etc. I've seen QS6.1s go for under $300.00. So do you have a QS6 yourself? I have a QS7, but have done very little with altering the presets. I kind of prefer to just use what is there a...

Re: Alesis QS6.2 tuning issues

The QS went to an 8.2 version I believe. I have the 7.1. I'm glad I read this thread, as I had completely forgotten that it had a serial port. That just might make me go get an adapter and try editing something on this synth.

Re: How many of you still have your first synth?

No, and it was a Yamaha DX100. Never really got into the menu diving to mess with the sounds and didn't find the presets all that inspiring. I didn't buy a synth again until last year.

Re: looking for a VA with split keyboard and 4+ octaves.

I'm over the thing. Sorry if I'm venting. No, no! Thanks, I appreciate the information. I just bought one myself and noticed that it is pretty buggy just switching patches. The first note you hit will not trigger the patterns assigned to the multis when you cange patches with the selector. You have...

I'm curious about the bugginess of the Venom. What's it doing on you?

Re: Startup-tips to an old man...

Well, you can always just record the audio output of your classic synths and work with it like that in the DAW. It sounds like you are already a practiced musician, so playing the synths directly is your strong point. Many people control their synths via writing MIDI notes in the DAW or a sequencer ...
