Re: Say I'm Your Number One (Princess, Stock/Aitken/Waterman) - Synths

I have a PSB West End disk for the Fairlight where they resampled the master tracks into the Fairlight. I have some info in the disk here: https://synthroom.com/fairlight-cmi/psb-fairlight-disks/psb-weg-fairlight-data-disk-2/ I've some screen shots of the other disk that goes with the one I mentione...

Re: K2000 Questions

Follow that link Tekhed66 posted above to the Sweetwater site. They have a metric tonne of stuff there for the K2000. Make sure you download the Pink Floyd "On the Run" patch. It literally sounds like the record and it moves back and forth in textures. I've heard the guy that programmed that patch g...

Re: DW8000 vs EX8000 EPROM compatible?

Caleb - if you still have your Ver 07 ROM, pop it in the EX and see if it works. If it does, then that could indicate the Ver 12 might work as well.

Re: Happy Birthday Gary Numan

I saw him in Portland last year as well! I agree - he's worth seeing. And it was so cool to see how proud he was when his daughter Persia came out and sang backup on one of his new songs. I don't think I've seen Gary smile so much in the other 2 concerts of his that I've seen over the last 20 years.

Re: Your latest musical purchase

That Synclav keyboard is not going to make any sounds with just the keyboard - I know as I have one as well. It needs a mainframe to go with it (which I don't have).

Re: Akai S612 Quik Disk Drive Grounding Cable Purpose?

Hi Caleb - My first sampler was an Akai S-612 with the MD-280 drive - got it in about 1990 or so. The ground strap on mine was frayed a bit like yours, except mine was next to the chassis of the drive. I had lots of bad reads/writes to the drive. I took it in and the service guy grabbed his solderin...

Re: Synths and You (the collection of opinions)

Questions: 1) The synth that made you want to play music: I was 5 or 6 when Switched-On Bach came out and I was fascinated with the music. So I guess it's Bach's Moog Modular. 2) Your first synth: Bought with the paycheck from the first job I got right out of college - a Roland JX-3P. Still have it....

Which model Fairlight do you have? DO you know any of its history? Did you get floppies with it?

Don't they show if it's Janis or Calvin when they boot up?? I thought I remembered it showing the OS version with a letter to that tells the board version, like "3.87J" would be a Janis.

Re: Your lifelong equipment list

That (little complicated programming box) was used in sound design and only after seeing the audio special behind-the-scenes of Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back did I realize how many sounds were indeed semi-natural samples. If you're still into Star Wars SFX, this is the book for you! https://www.am...

Re: Emulator II ? Fairlight ? Help with Patch Name

Edit: there's a high, single note melody in Domino Dancing that might be what you are referring to - if so, it's not a "choir" sound as such, but it's one of the vocal "aah" or "ooh" patches so typical of the Fairlight and other samplers - ie a human voice sample, the Fairlight has a few famous one...
