Re: What was the cheapest Synth you ever bought?

Casio CZ5000 for £30. Just one key dead, and the outputs distort which is good for bass/weirdness.

Re: Bottom Ten Worst Synths of All Time

Still don't see the hate for Italian things - have an EKO P15, love it. Eyeing up a Siel Mono, and sadly just sold my Orchestra as I have to downsize dramatically. SoundCanvas - terrible I was not keen on the MT32, same with the FB01 - I found the latter really quiet I was also not a fan of the Elek...

Kawai KC10 (Spectra) / XS-1 below the PH50 / PHm
Akai SG01k
Yamaha DX9
Evolution EVS1

Really like Siel synths, just parted with my Orchestra and I loved it.

Re: Akai S 5000 6000 Mainboard differences?

I have a couple of S5000s, and I think (although don't quote me) they are essentially the same sampler internally. With the S6000, it was essentially having the S5000 extras as standard (16 outs instead of 8, 128poly instead of 64, FX board built in, more RAM and a HDD/Jaz drive of some sorts?). Ext...

Re: Akai! S20 vs. S1000

haha, seven years The S20s seem to be having a resurgence in price in recent months. A mate sold his for £90 the other week, and I swear they were only going for 30-40 notes tops not that long ago. Saying that, TR505s have gone up a lot in the last year, I paid £50 15 months ago, flipped it for near...

Re: Size doesn't matter... or does it?

I feel better when I have more gear around me, and I'm always adding to the collection which always fuels the creative process, but in reality I probably end up using a couple of bits and pieces at any one time depending on mood/project. The real downside is I am always in a state of disrepair, with...

Re: Name some underrated/hated synths that you like

^ I have a MicroX and a Triton Rack, and the former is kind of the portable version of the latter (obvious differences aside). I know Octave One were using one a lot for their gigs a couple of years back (I saw it in some pics and went on a mad hunt to find one). I like some of the expansions for th...

Re: Name some underrated/hated synths that you like

Novation KS-Rack, <10yr old 3osc VA for under £150, with lots of knobs and sliders. Having had a JP8000 and a Supernova (both sold long ago), I was wary about diving back into a "trancey" synth. I much prefer this. E-Mu Morpheus (as mentioned previously) - I got mine for next to nothing, and I hardl...

Re: Gear Trading Thread

Probably very random request: I have a fully working GEM S3 and Technics WSA1, but I have run out of space for keyboards - would anyone wish to swap them for the rack versions? (GEM S2R or Technics SX-WAS1R). No catch, just like for like - I still want to use them but I have no room to keep the keyb...

Re: Ever been tempted to sell everything and buy a Korg Kron

I'm looking at the space side of things (as I'm really at my limit) and it's a tempting option. I would not trade everything, bit I would get rid of a large chunk as it can do what I do with ease. I have a lot of stuff from late 80s-early 90s which can easily be replaced by it (FM synthesis, Wavesta...
