Juno 106 - problems with oscillators

Hi all, I've got a Juno 106 on my bench that I'm trying to get back to 100%. I've done the acetone "fix" on the filter chips (which worked brilliantly), but there are still a couple problems standing in my way. Voice 5 has no sub oscillator. I swapped the 5534A chip from voice 5/6 to voice 3/4, and ...

Re: Casio CZ101 dead volume control and intermittent cartrid

So, first step, try batteries and see what happens. Ahhh, I should've mentioned that I have tried batteries, and unfortunately it didn't help! Before I was actually getting any sound out of this, the noise changed whenever I held a key - it's a weird digital sorta noise. I've also tried 3 adapters ...

Re: DX100 vs. CZ101

Can't say I've played a DX100, but I have a CZ101 and it's a lot more fun than my old DX7 was. Creating sounds is much easier, plus it has the wonderful Tone Mix feature, which lets you stack two patches per note in mono mode.

If the DX100 were cheaper, I'd just tell you to buy both.

Re: Casio CZ101 dead volume control and intermittent cartrid

Thanks guys, both good suggestions! Why I didn't think to check Syntaur before is beyond me. As for the cartridge, it works properly now - there was still a pin slightly out of alignment, but now it sits in the slot properly and doesn't feel loose. Still have buzzy headphones, but I'll figure that o...

Re: Roland JX3P and PWM

Hah thanks guys, it's nice to see everyone come to an agreement in the end!

Now if only I had a synth with normal PWM, then I could've proven it myself. Guess that just means I need to buy more synths!

Re: Roland JX3P and PWM

There are two aspects of sync-PWM making it sound subtly different from regular PWM. First, in regular PWM, the amplitude decreases towards half as you approach 0/100% pulse width. In sync-PWM, there is no amplitude loss as you approach 0/100% pulse width. Second, you can't get the sound of modulat...

Casio CZ101 dead volume control and intermittent cartridge

Hey all, just picked up a CZ101 and memory cart, and I'm having two problems. First, there was no sound at all. Volume control was dead, and no amount of contact cleaner would help. For interests sake, I removed the volume slider and opened it to see if I could tweak the contacts or something, and p...

Re: Roland JX3P crackling and smells...Help!

Exactly as fh991586 said, the input voltage could be the problem - check the voltage on the label at the back near the mains in. Mine is a North American unit, and specified voltage in is 117V . If yours is 100v input, you're likely feeding it 15-20% more juice than is specified (though that doesn't...

Roland JX3P and PWM

Hi all, I'm just curious about something - I've read many opinions about the Roland JX3P, and I very often hear that it "does not have real PWM". This confuses me, as I own one, and it's not hard to modulate the pulse width with either the LFO or envelope - Set DCO mix to 2 only, set CrossMod to Syn...

Yamaha DX7 Problems, Livewire Logic D-Xpander

Hey all, got a DX7 for free recently, and after replacing the battery it works! Mostly. If it gets bumped around too much, it stops working again. It probably bumps the extra CPU board a bit, enough for it to lose contact. I don't even know what this board is - never seen one before and Google tells...
