Re: How do you work on your tracks?

Do you start with a beat / drum pattern / arpeggio? I start with a click track or a very basic 1-2 measure drum pattern and get the main melody for each song section down first. Do you let a specific sound inspire you? Almost never. Most of the time if I'm in front of the keyboard it's because I al...

Re: What's the deal with S/PDIF on interfaces ?

I guess I wasn't too clear in my initial post since that's mostly info I knew :| Basically, what I'm trying to figure out is this: Are there 2 channel S/PDIF interfaces that can just make it so that there are 2 more channels, or is it only meant for an output from something with built in spdif outs...

Re: Mac USB3 compatible MIDI Interfaces?

Native Instruments has started adding "USB 3 not necessarily supported" notes on their site for their various interfaces and DJ devices with interface features. I'm not a Mac user, but I got rid of my NI Komplete Audio 6 exactly because it simply wasn't usable on my laptop's USB 3 ports. USB 3 is a ...

Re: What's the deal with S/PDIF on interfaces ?

There are several common applications. S/PDIF, ADAT, and other digital I/O options on interfaces offer expandability. This is particularly important on Windows where DAWs generally only can use a single interface/"audio device" at a time. If you max out all your inputs on your interface, you can add...

Re: Virus TI as an interface?

It's been years since I've tried, but does your DAWs allow you to use more than one sound card at a time? On Windows, no. Workarounds are to stick with interfaces that handle aggregation for you (presenting themselves as a single unit to your DAW), or to use Asio4All device aggregation. I hear this...

Re: Virus TI as an interface?

In multi mode you have to share all the outboard effects for one channel. I had a vision that you could just keep opening up new instances of it and keep going until the virus said uncle. Not the case, that is not totally clear in the description of how TI works. I wonder the same thing about the n...

Re: Virus TI as an interface?

Probably due to the fact that it's a USB 1 device, the Virus TI has ridiculous latency when running in interface mode. Before the latest major TI software release it was so slow that the RTL Utility (which measures interface round-trip latency) couldn't even test it- the latency gap was so big the t...

Re: Windows 8 Tablet Midi Controllers

Hmm, I've been thinking about trying this with my Dell Venue 8, but of the hundreds of different kinds of USB cables I've got laying around, none of them are Micro-B-to-Standard-B like you'd need in order to connect to a typical USB interface. I've got a couple USB interfaces that can connect to iOS...

Re: How to use KiwiTechnics Patch Editor with more than 1 sy

Thanks for the replies. As an update, Murray from KiwiTechnics suggested I just use MIDI Thru to daisychain my synths (and set them each to different channels). I will try doing it through Cubase again, just because that's the one method that won't require me to crawl behind the racks and trace cabl...

How to use KiwiTechnics Patch Editor with more than 1 synth?

I purchased a KiwiTechnics Patch Editor to program my Roland MKS-50, MKS-70, and MKS-80 rack units, since I don't have the original hardware programmers for any of them. I have been unsuccessful, so far, getting the Patch Editor to communicate with the devices as I had hoped. All my MKS units are co...

Re: Has ANYONE made an iPad dock that uses lightning?

All the ones I see still use the multi-pin (larger) connector. I luvs the new Behringer one, but alas it seems to also use the older ports from iPad gen 3 and earlier. I have the AKAI Synthstation 49, which is very cool and I use a small adapter, but I wish someone would make one that is specific t...
