Rom Burning and Ripping (West Central Canada)

I have a TL866, I live in West Central Canada, perhaps one could donate the roms from dead synths to amass a collection of hard to find binaries (that don't cost an arm and a leg to procure). Kind of how MAME is for Arcade Boards. I can burn any 27c, 28c or 29c (basically any 8bit rom) equivalent ro...

DIY DX7 Special Edition via 28c256 rom

Apperantly a double flashed 28C256 is a drop in replacement for the old dx7 16kb 27(c)128 Mask Rom! http://i66.tinypic.com/2agons8.jpg http://i66.tinypic.com/25yy8pe.jpg I used an *Official* TL866 programmer and some knowhow and some stuff from the hacking bench to roll my own copy of SER7 Now to fi...

This book, written by the guy who invented FM Synthesis, gives an outright mathematical look on how an X Piano does it's thing...very good book, going to print it on some nice parchment and keep it in me gig bag for some light reading.

Re: Is it worth getting a DX7 Mk1?

Oh man, I did it. First thing my brain said to do was "hook up some pedals to it" and thus far I like how gritty it is. Like... It feels really Sega Genesis-y in real life...my SY sounds Sterile and tame compared to it. Layered together it feels very punchy, like brand new gloves punchy. http://i67....

Theres a DX7 kicking around at work (I work at a pawn shop BTW). I really want it, two sore thumbs though;

Its Mono, My Sy77 can make the same noises

I want it because its a DX7.

Should i go for it? Ive got a rom burner i could put in the special edition roms.

Or shpuld i skip it?

Swollen Members - Breath (Ft. Nelly Furtado) is Mostly SY77?

The synth throughout seems to be "Mini Bass" with slight phaser

Preset 2, Bank A, Patch 14

The Drums seems to be "Drums 2"

So Swollen Members probably picked one up at a pawn shop, Called Nelly and made a sick track out of it.

Re: Akai MPX8 "Sample Player" Teardown

Ok, so I drank too much coffee, so I decided to stick the MPX8 update file in audacity as raw data, surprisingly I got to see the binary layout, hear all the built in samples, and one that don't seem to be accessible by normal means, a small "hey"? here is my findings... http://i61.tinypic.com/1yu0r...

Re: Akai MPX16 is junk (video included)

I've done some sniffing around this problem are any of you using the converter or raw files?... If not, can someone try to get into the pad calibration menu? (select + and volume - on the MPX8, but I don't know on the 16) Here's the 808 kick from the MPX8 sample pack available here The top wave is a...
