Re: What, really, is the difference between SCI Pro 1 and P5

How is a VCA going to slow things down? It's just an amplifier that can take a CV for level control. Used as the summing amp, there's no envelope. It's not necessarily the VCA itself that slows things down...it's the command to the VCA that can be slow. On the final all-voice VCA in the Polysix (al...

Re: Moog model D reissue

Dude, a Sub37 VCO? No way...too much work. They got that minty new Moog 15 iPad app right? Duct tape that into a fake wooden box and say "Damn, we're done!" Sure, they'll need a promo video featuring some guy with artisinal facial hair, but once that hard work is done, they can just sit back and let...

Re: Moog model D reissue

But Rush built a minimoog into an Oberheim 8-voice. And there's nothing miniature about an 8-voice, that's for sure.

Re: Moog model D reissue

Hence why Horowitz & Hill is called "The Art of Electronics" and not "The Science of Electronics". Ah, Horowitz & Hill. <sigh> I myself haven't laid eyes on the new version...the one that I've got dates back to the mid 90s...my first electronics class. Memory lane. Back on the issue of the Voyager....

Re: Moog model D reissue

How does path distance change the timing of a voltage in a through hole PCB? In guitar amps, the path distance (ie, the length of wire / PCB trace) in a circuit does have an effect on the sound. I've experienced it first hand in my own amp modifications. Pull out a bunch of wire and you get a diffe...

Re: Moog model D reissue

Can you post links to articles about these components? What exactly has changed about the manufacturing? Have the specs of the op amps and transistors been changed? Specifics please! Re: Moog model D reissue

The Voyager just seems messy and overcomplicated for what it's trying to achieve to me,) My Voyager OS is pretty simpleā€”in fact, the only things it has in addition to the new Model D is a slightly more flexible modulation routing, FM and sync and the hi-pass filter. Stuff people would like on the n...

Re: Mood model D reissue

In the hands-on demo I watched on synthtopia, the Moog employee was saying it has CV-patchable aftertouch routing. That, friends, is badass! Yes, but based on the video, there's no place to patch "Aftertouch" to "Modulation Amount". So, if true, you cannot do the most common aftertouch effect...you...

Re: DIY Ribbon Controller (Prophet 6 and Korg Mono/Poly)

I didn't do a D-beam, but I did extend my ribbon controller so that it can do CV, not just MIDI. If you're interested, you can check out the CV ribbon, including a demo on my Korg Mono/Poly, at: http://synthhacker.blogspot.com/2016/04/diy-ribbon-controller-cv.html Interestingly, the ribbon somehow *...

DIY Ribbon Controller (Prophet 6 and Korg Mono/Poly)

Hi All, I made myself a ribbon controller that talks MIDI. If you're interested, here's a demo with my Prophet 6... http://synthhacker.blogspot.com/2016/03/diy-midi-ribbon-controller.html It's amazing how fun it is to have a non-piano interface for a synth. It really does inspire different ways of p...

Re: Poly-61 & Polysix - dead key problem

LA Synth Co now sells replacement contact strips for several old synths of this era. Very nice, very easy. Worked great for my Mono/Poly (which uses the same type of keybed as the Polysix...I can't speak for the Poly-61). http://synthhacker.blogspot.com/2016/02/replacing-key-contacts-on-korg-monopol...

Re: Korg Monopoly Issues ... Help appreciated

LA Synth Co now sells replacement key contacts for the Mono/Poly (and other synths of this era, such as the Polysix). Previously (as stated above), I fixed my dead keys with CaiKote. That worked well for a bunch of years, but they started to fail again. After buying a complete set of new contacts fr...

Re: Overdrive Mod for Korg Polysix

Back on the OTA Overdrive using the Polysix's OTA, I've designed a custom PCB to put all the elements together. I'm wicked excited... http://synthhacker.blogspot.com/2016/01/pcb-for-polysix-ota-overdrive.html For the design itself, I used Fritzing, which I hadn't used before. In my one other PCB (a ...
