Re: atari emulator (on osx)?

hmm i guess steem works with midi, http://tamw.atari-users.net/steem.htm but i couldn't get it working in virtual box w/ windows or w/ wine. in virtual box i can get to the atari desktop, but the mouse is crazy and wine just shows a blank screen.

Re: TR-909 for Cheap?

http://www.9090project.co.uk :) i don't like the 909 and this sounds way better to me.

anyone building them? looks like a pretty involved project. i might try doing a couple of the drum sounds though.

Re: Yamaha RCM (SY/TG series) synths

Do the SY-series filters have resonance? I know a lot of early digital filters didn't, or didn't let it get pushed up to any significant degree. the 77 and i assume 99 do. the filtering can be useful, but so far the resonance hasn't been anything i've found a use for. oth, i think the filters and t...

Re: Anyone here burned out on modern analog?

i think doing some things on the analog4 can sound "70s" (ignore the analog oscillators, they're good for different "digital" reasons like wave sequencing :) ). a lot of it depends on how you use it. imo it's a pretty interesting synth regardless, it's kinda too bad they had to use analog to market ...

Re: DSI speculation

I love the design, the concept, and the modular integration. I like digital oscillators paired with analog filters as well. For sale blofeld, ms20mini, dx21, broken eps16, well used micron  ms20mini and dx21 will be great with pro2 tho. gotta use those midi and cv outs and cv and audio i...

Re: New to Eurorack, what are 'must haves'

more the utility and non-standard processing that comes with modular. I'm pretty intrigued by the various logic modules that can perform logic operation based on CV, clock and gate. This and the clock multiplier and dividers. So I guess I am looking for the nerd fodder that doesn't make a sound but...

haha fair enough. guess i'll have to try them. i actually am kinda curious if/how kurzweil pulled off the "vintage analog". wonder if they sample the filter response of the synth itself or try to do it with the filters on the k2000.

Re: Synths that didn't impress you

ETA: ^ yeah, what they said.  if i make the mistake of listening to presets on modern synths i quickly start to worry. until it use it for a while. :) i don't know why my dx100 has decent presets, my sy77 is meh and k5000 is blah. and in terms of synthesis the sy77 and k5000 still ...

why do people want kurzweil floppy sample disks?

i picked up a k2000 in a trade and they tossed in the "analog collection" sound set. i had just left them sitting in the closet and was probably going to toss them (i've been busy just messing with vast, so i haven't had time really to try loading them up and i've never really been one to use sample...

Re: Replacement LCD Screen for Yamaha DX27

i'm looking for the actual LCD itself without the interface. mine is cracked in the middle, the edges still display though. i'd used a dx100 long enough that i can still program it! i took the screen out by bending the 4 metal bars to hold it in place and later slid the screen itself back in ...

Re: FM drum machine

Machinedrum has an EFM drum synthesis "machine" (FM) haha the monomachine is actually even better for this in some ways, i think, although it can be work with 6 tracks. :) i've built kits on my sy77, but the sequencer isn't exactly drum machine like! tbh, i think you'd have a hard time doing better...

Re: synths as investment

most vintage synths that are "expensive" today were really just stupidly undervalued and for the most part prices still haven't risen above what they were new. the 303 was the only one i'd say was a really good investment. i think it's a risky game to speculate like that now. i don't think vintage (...

Re: Would you buy a CS80 if re-released?

The CS-50 I own is the finest synthesizer (in layout and quality) that I have ever played. It is an example of a synthesizer "done right" in that it was not made with cheap components that feel terrible. It was not made to jump on a few gimicky bandwagons. It was an electronic device designed to de...
