Re: Yamaha CS-80 (x2) from Zappa's estate

The bidding ends on Friday! Isn't that a VERY reasonnable price for CS-80s? I'm sure it will go up within the last few minutes. What do you think?

Re: AKAI AX-73

I don't have access to the synth right now so I'll do my best ;) Unlike many budget poly analogs from that era, the AX73 has analogue envelopes instead of CPU controlled ones (JX-8P, Matrix-6 come to mind). That means that they are imperfect! What's more, you have the opportunity to direct the secon...

Re: AKAI AX-73

First synth I ever bought. Learned everything on it about synthesis and harmony. I love it to death! I've bought and sold many synths after the AX73 and I still own it :) There are a lot of unique things about it that most people ignore. It's just sad it has no sliders. Perfect for cold, disturbing ...

Re: Is it Worth Repairing these Juno-60s?

I have to admit: it's a lot of money. The thing is, the Juno (6 and 60) are just great synths. Beyond the hype, there is a real MUSICAL instrument that is such a joy to play and edit. I actually compose a lot more on that synth than more complicated/fancy ones :)

Thanks so much rhino, I'll give it a shot for sure. I see you own one too: have you made the adjustments to yours?

Korg DSS-1 self-oscillating filters

Hi! I've been using the Korg DW-8000 (a lot) for two years and became big fan of it. For that reason, I always kept an eye opened for a DSS-1 in the local ads knowing it was even more awesome. And I finally found one! It's as cool as I thought it would be. Best way I found so far to get PPG-esque to...

Re: Roland JX showdown: JX-3P vs JX-8P vs Super JX10

I guess some will think I'm crazy but I had both JX-3P and JX-8P, each with their own programmer. I gave the JX-3P to a friend and kept the JX-8P. It sounds much more different to my Juno-6 and I like diversity ;) JX10 and 8P sure don't deserve all the hate.

Re: dw-8000 keyboard

I've owned two DW-8000 and I also love the sound of them. Except that the keys are noisy and have a strange, yet solid feel to them. You get used to it after a while, though. Aftertouch on both was actually excellent but I might have been lucky!

Count me in! I'll show the non-initiated what the DW-8000 is capable of.

Re: Digital oscs, analogue filters?

Do 80s Akai samplers processed through AX60, AX73 or VX90 count? They use CEM filters, don't they... do you know how the process works? It's not simply an audio input, is it, it's something to do with using the samplers as effectively external oscillators, I think, but correct me if I'm wrong. I ha...
