Re: Synths and You (the collection of opinions)

1) The synth that made you want to play music: Sequential Prophet 5 (as played by John Carpenter) 2) Your first synth: Sequential Multi-Trak 3) The synth that has surprised you most: Multi-Trak.. It actually sounds decent, and has a nice built in sequencer. Key bed works better than expected. I only...

Re: What's a good price to pay for a Jupiter 8 these days?

I saw a Jupiter 8 on Ebay within the past couple weeks. Asking price was around $13K USD. Last time I looked at one, a couple years ago, they were around $8K to $9K..

Re: Prophet 600 Sequencer Export

Yes, I suppose I could do that, play the sequences with the MIDI out connected to my MAC using Reaper. But, I was hoping a fellow Prophet 600 owner, might know whether those SEQ button LEDs should light up, when pressing the buttons, to tell the 600 to output the Sequences, instead of Programs. And ...

Prophet 600 Sequencer Export

I picked up a Prophet 600 last month. When attempting to export Sequences via the Cassette interface, it appeared as though the Programs were being exported, instead of the Sequences. Step 8, in the Manual for Saving Programs or Sequences to tape, states: "To store both sequences, press either SEQ 1...

Re: Sequential T8 Monster Auction Excitement

I rarely bid on vintage synths, listed on Ebay, but I bid on one tonight.. I saw a massive monster T8, the other day, that just pulled me in.. It made me forget all about the Prophet 5, 600, 6, Rev2 and everything else Sequential.. What is it about a T8 that compelled you to be willing to spend tho...

Sequential T8 Monster Auction Excitement

I rarely bid on vintage synths, listed on Ebay, but I bid on one tonight.. I saw a massive monster T8, the other day, that just pulled me in.. It made me forget all about the Prophet 5, 600, 6, Rev2 and everything else Sequential.. For nearly the last crazy 26 minutes of the auction, I was the high ...

Re: Happy Christmas, love from Arturia

I was finally able to reset my Arturia password, after not being able to do it on my phone. Strange I didn't see the option to do it on my iPhone. I had to browse to the Arturia site on a laptop, then the "forgot password link" was visible.. So it looks like I will get the MiniFilter gift afterall! ...

Re: Sequential TOM stuck on Pattern Number Function

I got a hold of a copy of the TOM Service Manual. Studied the push button circuit schematic. Deduced that the most likely suspect was a switching diode, shared by all 5 of the inoperable buttons.. Opened TOM up, removed the PCB. And there it was! The cathode end of said switching diode had a bad sol...

Sequential TOM stuck on Pattern Number Function

I picked up a Sequential TOM yesterday. The guy I bought it from obtained it from an Estate Sale. His only method of testing was simply plugging it in via the original Sequential E-170 power supply. He didn't have any way of hooking up the 1/4" audio out, to test audio output. Upon Power up, the pro...

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks

I have never heard the 24K Gold CD.. I have the Silva Screen Film CD 071 Soundtrack, which includes 5 tracks from Phantasm II, in addition to 18 tracks from Phantasm. I think I bought my CD in 1996. It sounds good to me.. A few Angus pics: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/6b/29/5c/6b295cbf2...

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks

ANGUS SCRIMM (a.k.a. The Tall Man ) passed away, on Saturday, January 9th, 2016. Phantasm director Don Coscarelli beautifully wrote, “Angus Scrimm passed away peacefully tonight surrounded by his friends and loved ones. He was 89 years old. His performance as the Tall Man is a towering achievement ...

Electric Dreams 1984 .. Just watched this on the tube, tonight. I had not seen this movie since the 80s.. Giorgio Moroder worked on this soundtrack. Micke, might know the equipment he used for this one and the song he made for the movie, "Together in Electric Dreams". https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks

Film scores that were primarly created on a Buchla modular system seem to be few and far between. In fact, just about the only one I know of is Barry Schrader's electronic score to the sci-fi thriller/horror flick "Galaxy of Terror" (1981): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJx6Ct64G3w Suzanne Ciani ...

Re: Synths with both keys and step sequencers?

So where are the notes recorded then, into a vacuum? No, they are recorded in RAM memory chips, at least on my unit. So I'm still waiting for your definition. Million Dollar Question, and my 50 cent answer: What defines a Step Sequencer? Any sequencer that is incapable of recording notes, in a high...

Re: Synths with both keys and step sequencers?

if I realtime record a very sloppily played line with a midi sequencer and then quantize it to death and remove all velocity and aftertouch, did it just become a "step sequencer"? No, step and real time are two different types of sequencing. A true real time sequence, has no steps.. You are not pla...
