Re: What synth have you bought more than one of?
Holy moly, that is an impressive list, natrixgli. I've had a lot of electric pianos...Had 15 Wurlitzer 206's at one time, plus a 207 (I bought a high school's piano lab many years ago). Only ended up keeping one of them, and a friend who helped me flip them kept another...Kinda wish I'd done that wh...

Modding the New ARP Odyssey
I absolutely love my new (Korg) ARP Odyssey. If I'm honest though, there are a few features which I wish it had readily available that would make what is an incredibly versatile synth even more useful. Has anyone attempted to mod this new unit yet? Does the surface-mount component design make that m...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey
Hi all! So I've spent a bit over a week with my new Korg ARP Odyssey...and I'm loving it!! I'm a "real" keyboard player, been playing for 27+ years, and I'll have to say that after about an hour of playing, I was not only used to the "slim" keybed, I was in love with it! I really like the feel of it...

Fairlight Page R Contest!
Hey VSE, I belong to a website called BattleOfTheBits.org. It was initially built around chiptune and sample-based tracker music about 9 years ago, but has expanded gradually to include a little of everything. We host "battles" constantly, with at least one "major battle" happening at all times. The...

Re: Advice on a new synth???
As a guy who has regularly played live with one since it was released, the Nord Lead 2X (not the original; the re-issue with 24-bit DAC and more polyphony/memory) will do pretty much everything you're looking for, and it's so well suited for live use. And it's super lightweight whilst still being ve...

Re: How often do you use hardware live, if at all?
Very interesting to see how other guys operate! I play keys and sing in a trio (and sometimes a duo) and part of our 'thing' is that we don't use any tracks or such trickery. I'm not on my high horse about it, as I do occasionally play solo gigs with backing tracks (but even then, it's live in the s...

Re: anyone else like wurly/rhodes/clavinet/organ here?
Glad to see someone else with a Wurlitzer 206 (yorgatron)! Once I had a whole lab (207 + 14 206's)! Sold them all to a guy who chopped them and modded them to more or less turn them into 200A's. I won't mention any names lest someone know who it is, heh. Anyway I got one of the modded 206's as part ...

Re: Roland SH-3
So nice to hear all this talk about my beloved Roland SH-3. I promise I'll get the serial from it asap...It's a bit of a hassle now, as I've temporarily stored it on a high shelf in my studio to make some room (toooooo much gear....but never enough gear...you know the sickness!). The SH-3 was defini...

Re: DX7-II, SQ-80, or Nord Lead 3?
Man, I appreciate the info. I feel confident enough to do the replacement now, just need to make sure I get the right battery.
It actually came with the original manual and the E! manual, which I haven't cracked yet. Thanks for the download link though
Peace!

Re: DX7-II, SQ-80, or Nord Lead 3?
A DX7 and a freaking harpsichord? Oh, awesome . The battery change is a fairly basic soldering job, but if you've never done one before, some advice: get a proper desoldering iron (one with the rubber bulb connected to a pipe running down into the heating element/tip.) They're about $17 at Radio Sh...

Re: DX7-II, SQ-80, or Nord Lead 3?
Thanks again guys for the input. This is a crazy turn of events... So, I was leaning more toward the SQ-80 just because it was something new and different for me, but rezisehtnyS had me pretty much convinced to find a SY77...Which I may end up eventually getting, I dunno. So I was looking on the loc...

Re: DX7-II, SQ-80, or Nord Lead 3?
Thank you guys for the insight. It's helpful! @sensory: I'm not daunted at all by the DX7-II workflow...That was the synth I started with when I was 12. Anything less brain-straining than FM is a cakewalk! @rezisehtnyS: Thank you for suggesting the SY! I have spent maybe an hour with one, and that w...

DX7-II, SQ-80, or Nord Lead 3?
Looking to add another piece to my studio. I've been on a big 80s kick lately, setting up a second studio built around strictly hardware and tape, mostly vintage and/or analog gear. Of all the synths I currently have, none have aftertouch, and I'm really starting to miss it. Not wanting to spend a f...

Re: James Newton Howard and Friends Yamaha DX cd
Love that album! I had the cassette as a kid and wore it out. My uncle got it with his Ford (remember stereo demo tapes?). My first real synth was a DX7-IIFD when I was 11 or 12 so that may explain why i liked that record so much. Also the fact that I'd just started playing drums and someone gave me...
