Using NRPN Synths (Akai Miniak) with CC Hardware Controllers

I'm planning on buying a Miniak, but I also want to buy a BCR2000 hardware control surface which is supposed to interface with the Miniak via MIDI. As far as I've heard, the BCR2000 works with Miniak's cousin, the Alesis Micron, but doesn't support the Miniak because the BCR2000 uses CC while the Mi...

Akai Miniak vs. Korg R3

I really want to get my hands on the Akai Miniak (or Alesis Micron, they're the same thing pretty much), but I'm debating between it and the Korg R3. The Miniak is cheaper and has more multi-timbral parts, and seems to have more features than the R3. I also like its sound better. The Miniak also has...

Re: Question about Novation Ultranova & Roland Gaia

Neither of those synths is multitimbral (unless you count the GM section on the Gaia, which you shouldn't) so if you want to do what you're saying you need to record the audio from the output to a DAW (or looper, or hardware recorder) before you change the patch and play the next sound. Okay, thank...

Re: Question about Novation Ultranova & Roland Gaia

you're looking for a 'sequencer'. Yeah, that's the word for it. I'm guessing neither the ultranova nor the gaia have a built in one, so what are some recommended (inexpensive) sequencers that will work with them? EDIT: Found this site, but you have to pay to see the video. http://maschinetutorials....

Question about Novation Ultranova & Roland Gaia

I'm split on whether to buy the Novation Ultranova and Roland Gaia. The one feature I really need is the ability to play, let's say the bass line of a song, save it, then play the lead over the bass, both at the same time. Do either of these synthesizers have that capability, and if not, is there so...

I know the Ultranova has a vocoder and aftertouch and all that... just wondering, does it have a sequencer/playback mode too?

Re: Best Polyphonic Synth with Sequencer and at least 49 key

Was doing some research on the SQ-80, and there are a couple issues for me. One, people say the keys make a clacking sound, the keyboard can wear down fairly easily, and it's no longer in production. Does anyone have any more modern suggestions? Basically, I need a Roland Gaia SH-01 with some more k...

Re: Best Polyphonic Synth with Sequencer and at least 49 key

Definitely open to something used. I don't want to break the bank, but I also need a fairly decent synth. Thanks for the suggestions so far, guys. I'll check them out. The Ensoniq SQ-80 seems like a great option... Also, what are good sites to get discounted/used synthesizers like the Ensoniq or Gai...

Best Polyphonic Synth with Sequencer and at least 49 keys?

I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive (polyphonic) synthesizer with a sequencer/performance mode as well as at least a decent 49-key keyboard. Having the ability to emulate an acoustic piano is a huge plus. I really love the Roland Gaia SH-01, but the only thing really putting me off from buying ...
