Re: most flexible Realistic® drum machine

Well, it looks like a couple of ebayers have already posted a couple of recordings of this box on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CmC6YEFAeo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKe5j-jAKuQ I would say they sound accurate, down to the soft "ticking" sound that is unfortuately always present in ...

Re: most flexible Realistic® drum machine

It's a fun toy, but it really doesn't compare to a more serious machine. The number of rhythms is limited and completely un-customizable. No swing, no fills, no individual outs or volume sliders. When I'm back home I should be able to record some sounds. It should be a short demo - there's not much ...

Re: most flexible Realistic® drum machine

I'm the proud owner of one of these :) The photo here is really deceptive. It's a lot fatter and chunkier tthan that photo suggests. Think monophonic boombox, rather than answering machine. Off the top of my head (away from home right now), I think it only has four sounds - bass, snare, woodblock, c...

Re: Korg DW8000 built in Chorus effect?

Does anyone have the SDD-1000 service manual who could send it to me? I have the DS-8 and schematics and can compare the two. The DS-8 is pretty primitive (25 kHz sampling rate, 720 msec max delay), so it could well be the same. The overall design, with a compander, is typical for early delays and i...

Re: 1986 KORG DS-8... Quite Surprised!

Following up with my experience, in case others need to replace a dim LCD. I bought a Futaba vacuum fluorescent display, part M402SD10FJ: http://www.primelec.com/futaba-2-x-40-characters-vacuum-fluorescent-display-m402sd10fj#.WkMobvCnGMA It's characters are a little smaller than the original display...

Re: 1986 KORG DS-8... Quite Surprised!

To the OP:
I have a really dim backlight on my DS-8. When I looked into getting a replacement, the schematics look like the DS-8 uses a non-standard pinout for the display. Did you have to rearrange the lines going into the display? Or does it drop right in?
Thanks!

Re: TX-81z vs FB-01 more similar than different or not?

Hi, Caleb.
I can't comment on the TX81z (never had one), but after doing the mods on this page:
http://llamamusic.com/fb01/

I found that I liked the FB-01 sound a lot more than my DX100, and out went the DX!
I still kept my TX7 for 6-op sounds.

Re: Vintage BOSS PSA-120 Power Adapters

Hi, Crisp. Can you post a photo of the label for your Jameco adapter? Or a link to where you bought it? I couldn't find specs for this one on their website. Please don't take this as an insult, but you have confirmed it is center negative? Also, the TR606 really is only looking for 6V. Unregulated l...

Re: New Elka Synthex?

It's a little pointless to talk about their specifications when they don't even have a prototype yet. Whether they reach their goal or not, there is no guarantee they can 1) make the synth and 2) get it to backers. Good luck to those who are invested, but I will be happy to wait to buy later if they...

Happy to be corrected! I did look at the manual, but did not see that earlier. Great to hear!

From what I can tell, the WTPA2 won't transpose sounds across a keyboard as you play live. Is that correct?

Re: Synth Defects - Ticking Time Bombs

The Siel Expander also dies a similar, leaky-battery death as the Opera 6/DK600 mentioned above. Many synths with PCB-mounted 1/4" jacks that are not secured to the case can develop problems over time as the cables get torqued and jack housings crack and fall apart. Later Pro-Ones with the membrane ...
