Re: Filling in the holes on a TR-606?

Perhaps resin? Or maybe potting compound? It's a shame the 606 isn't black as you can buy it in various colors, but not silver. I can think of a few possibilities, you might just have to get creative. Whatever you end up using, do test it somewhere that's not important first as some concoctions reac...

Re: DX7 Ground Noise

I've heard of DX7's not having their ground connected internally and in the case of some, using a 2-Pin plug so there is no ground anyway (as is the case with mine) so noise can be rather loud. In my case, I removed the ground connection from my audio cables a long time ago so the problem goes away ...

Re: DX7 II FD - What on earth!?

N-n-n-necropost!!! Figured I'd let you know, I tried Dexed and after a very long time trying to figure out how MIDI is supposed to work in modern operating systems, arrived at the following; http://i.imgur.com/EFcip7R.png Those SysEx files work fine in SoundLib and Cakewalk, the latter of which is n...

Re: Choosing a DAW

It does simply because it has to, on the wire at least. It is, however, worth noting that the software, like most applications today, cannot save and load files in the SYX format as used by Cakewalk in the past, and adopted by pretty much everything else for that last hardware-centric decade before ...

Re: Choosing a DAW

There seems to have been an abundance of applications, increasing to an unfathomable level this last decade, that do not support SysEx. Many of them do support talking to the synth in ways that you'd expect them to if they did, so they obviously speak the lingo internally, but the files are often ge...

Re: Choosing a DAW

Rubbish, Atari ST is the way forwards! :P I say that, yet I use a PC. https://s26.postimg.org/hn744fn3p/vlcsnap_2016_06_29_03h13m48s254.jpg I'm probably good as en example of how not to do things if you value your sanity, but if you ever do run into something problematic or infuriatingly tedious rem...

Re: DX7 II FD - What on earth!?

It wouldn't surprise me if some of the patches in the wild don't work, but with three copies of the original patches not working I expect there's some kind of issue beyond poor programming. I'm quite happy to dabble with the synth myself, usually, but in this case daren't because I don't know if I c...

Re: Casio CZ-3000 MIDI Question

This stuff is all after my time, so I have no idea how FL Studio works, having only borrowed it and used it once before I went back to where I came from. Supposedly though, there should be an Options menu with MIDI settings in it, you can set the input to your, presumably, USB-MIDI wire there. Be su...

DX7 II FD - What on earth!?

Fixes Set receive bank to 1-32, merged the two SysEx files together and sent using Cakewalk Professional 3.01. The synth coughs and whines, and reports Cartridge Not Ready a few times and ends with a "Buffer Full" warning as a random piano-sounding note fades out. Whatever, this fixes the problem a...

Re: What Synth has the most Mojo?

Torn between two. Back in 2004 when I was still a kid, I had some horrible Roland controller keyboard that I used with my PC to make music (So I was making music with a YM3812 back then - it sucked) and it was on the verge of dying. I found someone selling a CZ-1000 very cheap (I think it was like £...

Re: Poll: Favorite drum machine

My favorite... Always vote the RZ-1. Tried playing with an RX11 but could never really get into the noises it made - aside from one of the snares - and the lack of sampling got on my nerves very quickly. I could never get into the whole LM2 and TR thing either, I borrowed both from someone years bac...

Re: Yamaha DX-100 - Is it worth another go?

Part it out? For some reason I never thought of that. It'd be a shame as I never got to use this to it's potential, limiting it to only one style of music, but it's not proving to be any use to anybody in it's current state and parts from it wouldn't be much use to me. There doesn't appear to be a s...

Yamaha DX-100 - Is it worth another go?

Edit: I've decided that it's time for this synth to retire, it lead a horrible life both before and after I got it and I can source a compatible one at a later time if I still want to play with an 80's Yamaha... I'll probably get side-tracked with other things anyway. Hi, everyone, new member here,...
