Thanks, I'm very familiar with polynominal and it's a great site with a lot of useful information!

Re: DDD-1 Factory Settings

Update: When the Korg DDD-1 was sold new it came with a demo pattern data cassette with the drum patterns. Such a data tape (or a sound file made of the data tape) is needed to upload the drum patterns after a reset. The million dollar question of course is: who has such a tape or the corresponding ...

Korg DDD-1 drum pads

Hi everyone, Today I received a dusty but otherwise fully working and pristine Korg DDD-1 Drum Computer. While removing dust bunnies and cleaning out my DDD-1, I noticed that the drum buttons (the big ones at the bottom) are attached to their switches: does anybody know how to remove these drum butt...

Re: Roland D-50 or Kawai K4

n't think of a rack. K4r would be cheapest but it doesn't have the onboard effects, but the K4 keyboard action is meh. The D-550 would cost more, but about the same as a D-50 I guess? D-50 keyboard is nice. I actually do like the K4 Keyboard (the only real drawback being the noisy keys, but that co...

Re: Roland D-50 or Kawai K4

The K4 is exceptionally good in creating pads and long sweeping sounds (but not in a Wavestation kind of way). I believe the Kawai K4 and the Roland D-50 do share certain sonic attributes.

Thanks for your reply. Though the D-50 certainly delivers in the sonic department, but I am looking for a more old school and hands on experience.

Roland D-50 or Kawai K4

Hi all, I have been playing for a while now and what I feel is missing from my setup is a (virtual) analog synth in my setup (thinking about a Yamaha AN1x). Sadly, I have a space problem: if I want to introduce a new synth, it means I have to give up on one of my current machines. The conundrum I am...

Akai Z4/Z8 factory samples

I recently acquired an Akai Z4 that sadly had the HD wiped clean, also no original CD with factory sound library was included with the sale. I therefore am looking for the original Akai Z4/Z8 factory sound library. I already have a digital copy of the MPC 4000 factory samples, but I have read that t...

Re: Korg Ds-8 repair

Hi, I just checked out the pictures of (what I suppose is) a korg DS-8. it has the exact same keybed as my Kawai K4. As I have taken the keybed of my Kawai apart several times now, I'm pretty sure that it is the spring that has gotten away (perhaps because the spring post on the key snapped off). Se...

Re: Help - What is wrong with this key? (I think a simple is

http://www.bustedgear.com/images/jobs/Roland-D50/D50C12.jpg On this picture you see an actual D-50 keybed: the posts with the rubber bushings are sticking out at the front horizontally. If these guide/alignment posts have been bent in some way, this could explain why your key is misaligned. A word ...

Re: Help - What is wrong with this key? (I think a simple is

There could also be a problem with the keyguide on the keybed. If this has been bent, it will need to be realigned. The alignment and spacing of Roland keybeds from this era can be somewhat problematic because of the keybed system used.

Kawai K4 aftertouch

I just discovered that the aftertouch on my K4 is 'unresponsive' at best. Is this a common issue? Roland D-50s from the same era very often also seem to suffer from the aftertouch problem (the same technology seems to have been used) Also, is this an easy fix?

Many thanks in avance!

Re: Removing weights from D-50 keys

Sadly, the lye water trick that usually is successful for the JD-800 keys doesn't work on D-50 keys. Th bonding agent used on D-50 keys actually is glue (a hard type for the white keys, a soft/flexible type for the black keys) I've decided to remove all key weights the hard way. Question: does anybo...
