Re: Downsizing (which synths can I sell?)

No offence taken; I'm all for constructive criticism and different viewpoints (which is why I'm posting here in the first place) :-D Yes, an ITB setup would of course solve all my challenges with not having a dedicated studio for everything, but..... it's hard to let go of those "gems", so a comprom...

Re: Downsizing (which synths can I sell?)

Thanks for showing us your setup! You've got a good point about softsynths essentially being an editor/librarian in itself, and I assume that applies to the Cyclone sampler plugin as well. I like the thought of practical solutions: whatever lets me make music effortlessly. But I was more thinking ab...

Re: Roland D-110 & PG-10 configuration

Never mind, I figured it out. I connected OUT (instead of THRU) from the PG-10 to the D-110 IN. Here's the working setup: https://i.postimg.cc/s2qyvypR/D-110-to-PG-10-connection-CORRECTED.png That, and of course ensuring that both the programmer and D-110 are set to MIDI UNIT no. 17 and setting the ...

Roland D-110 & PG-10 configuration

I'm trying to set up a Roland D-110 with a PG-10 programmer but the D-110 isn't responding, so I must have done something wrong -either the connection, the parameters or both. This is how I've set it up with a DX-7 as the master keyboard controller: https://i.postimg.cc/Vv6K2mPT/D-110-to-PG-10-conne...

Re: Downsizing (which synths can I sell?)

Please tell me about your friend's batch converter. I don't know if I need it right now, but is that something he's made available for others? Free? Shareware/commercial? What platform does it run on? Yes, the Typhoon manual is probably a good place to start. I've skimmed through it but should proba...

Re: Downsizing (which synths can I sell?)

I've just tried to upload (attachements) photos of my setup, but get error messages saying they're too large. That's despite making them less than 500 KB each, so I'm not sure what the forum requirements are -anyone know? I dunno, all my discs loaded fine on a Mac, showed up as IBM PC 720k. I use Cy...

Re: Downsizing (which synths can I sell?)

Most definitely! I'll post a photo soon. Your suggestion sounds good -and I definitely keep Sysex files of my own sounds :) And backups! The FXP files didn't work within Tracktion Waveform 10 either (which takes both AU and VST plugins), but no worries. I get to try out the sampler in Garageband whi...

Re: Downsizing (which synths can I sell?)

There might have been some minor differences at certain velocities and pitches (keys) but to me it's not like night and day. So only the first 4 sounds are by Brian Eno while the rest of the bank is by others? Some nice Rhodes and other sounds there! To me, and the kind of music I like making (mostl...

Re: Downsizing (which synths can I sell?)

Thanks Madtheory, that worked! OK, so I've transferred the Brian Eno sysex file over to both synths, but honestly I can't hear any difference between them (TX-802 and original DX-7). I've tried playing at different keys, high up, low down, chords etc. but to my ears they sound the same (I've been us...

Re: Downsizing (which synths can I sell?)

It's a tricky question sometimes: sell or keep? Do I collect cool and rare vintage gear or do I make music? What do I actually NEED to make the music I want? All tricky questions, and I'm trying to figure out the answers. With a family and a part of the living room for my studio those are things to ...

Re: Downsizing (which synths can I sell?)

Aha! :D
They (Encylotronic) could have made it a whole lot easier for everybody by informing that you have to register and sign in to download anything from them. Not an obvious thing as most websites with free downloads don't demand a login.
Thanks for clearing it all up!

Re: Downsizing (which synths can I sell?)

I'm the OP and utterly confused as well :? I first clicked on the Factmag link (as posted earlier in this thread). That page in turn linked to the Encyclotronic page , but alas there's no link to the actual download. Clicking on the (keyboard magazine) image scan only brings up a larger view of it. ...

Re: Downsizing (which synths can I sell?)

Yamaha TX16W: There is only one actual emulation of the TX16W, and that's Cyclone, make by the people who developed Typhoon. It's really a nostalgia exercise "because the could". Ah, I see! The plugin known as TX16W is nothing like a TX16W, although it can read Yamaha format samples (but not Typhoo...

Re: Downsizing (which synths can I sell?)

Keep the keyboard-based instruments and sell off the 19" rackmounts. Personally, I think they are terrible-sounding stuff, and some of them are a PITA to program. Not worth the bother IMHO. I agree that a lot of them are hard to program, but what do you compare them with when you say they sound ter...

Re: Downsizing (which synths can I sell?)

I'm still a stranger to the softsynth/DAW thing, and have to admit that in the back of my mind those solutions are still prone to timing issues compared to hardware MIDI gear Softsynths are *sample* accurate. MIDI is way worse than that (it takes about 3ms to send a note-on message - I'll leave you...
