Re: Short rant: Rosen Sound in LA (106 voice fix)
Some techs (respectable ones at that) say sockets cause more headache and increase the chances of dropped voices. I assume this means that there's a chance that the sockets won't hold the chip tight enough, and a bumpy car ride can unseat a chip. I find this plausible. Yes I agree, for a 106 on the...

Re: Short rant: Rosen Sound in LA (106 voice fix)
I think the sockets are a very nessersary, I have removed countless Juno at chips and the tracking is very fragile. I see many sad cases from botched attempts on those boards...if you can't solder don't try it. Got 3 in this week for new chips. Top tip.....always remove the deadly foam from the pot...

Re: Short rant: Rosen Sound in LA (106 voice fix)
Sockets for the chips are another controversy What is the poblem with sockets ? I often repair 106s, so mine has voice #1 on socket just to check the 80017A of the 106s of my customers. No problem until today... http://forum.anafrog.com/phpBB/images/smilies/nesaispo.gif I don't think there's a prob...

Re: Short rant: Rosen Sound in LA (106 voice fix)
Sam, There's an important thing to recognize here before I delve deep into this... chips fail. Through hole chips fail, SMD fails... Everything. Capacitors, resistors, opamps, 3340's... No matter what it is, it can and inevitably WILL fail. Same goes for the chips contained on the 80017A chips. Same...

Re: Short rant: Rosen Sound in LA (106 voice fix)
Eesh! We're just glad this ended up resolved. Time, backlog and expansion is the catalyst behind our turn around short comings. Alex, by all means, we truly wish it could've been done in the expected time. We're fortunate and thankful to have a growing team, growing business, and a growing backlog (...

Re: Synth Spa- Haven't seen my 106 in almost a year...
You know what I think? The acetone trick on these voice chips does not have a 100% success rate... I KNOW that much... he probably saw a golden global opportunity to fix everyones 106's for cash upfront and didn't realize he would have 1000 dead chips on his hand that the customer has technically al...

Re: Synth Spa- Haven't seen my 106 in almost a year...
Okay, hate to resurrect an old thread here... but I am a synth tech and shop owner here in Burbank California and I am seriously curious as to how anyone is putting up with this type of business ethic without actually going to the legal extremities? Has there been any update? I am incredibly baffled.
