Re: Yamaha Reface

Most of my musician friends can't/wouldn't spend more than around $800 on a keyboard. If you are the kind of person to make frequent "investments" in expensive music gear; yeah you're possibly "professional", nothing wrong with that, but you're a minority. Don't forget that most musicians aren't syn...

Re: Yamaha Reface

They look very fun and appealing towards young musicians with a budget and who don't care about the past (besides in an aesthetic sense). Why don't people understand that most companies will never be marketing towards older people who focus on the good ole days? Manufacturers like DSI exist for that...

Re: Unmastered or Mastered Backing Tracks? (Electribe ES-1)

Perhaps I should've said "pushed in to a limiter" because thats what I truly mean.

Unmastered or Mastered Backing Tracks? (Electribe ES-1)

Im planning to use my Electribe ES-1 for live backing tracks by sequencing audio loops in to songs. In previous performances I have ran backing tracks that were unmastered with headroom out of an iphone, which I have always had trouble mixing with other instruments (just a synth and live vocals). So...

How Much is an Akai MX-73 Worth Today?

I have an Akai MX-73 master midi keyboard from 1986, which was the midi brother to the AX73 synthesizer. I obtained it practically for free locally and I have never seen one for sale. It is in beautiful condition. Great keybed, and has a lot of features; many ins and outs. Im moving soon and don't w...

Re: Best Digital Synth to Compliment Analog Setup

Yes, keys is a must! Anyone know if there is a Roland JV expansion withe D50 sounds? It sounds like what you really need is a V-Synth with VC-1 card. You'll get a D-50 emulator and the original D-50 sound sets, plus an extremely flexible synth with sampling. It'll cost you more like $1000, well wor...

Re: Just how far have synths come in the last 20 years?

As for the desire for new gear over old gear, my view is that any instrument can not become "old". I believe that an individual synth model such as a DX7 is in itself as much a singular instrument as a piano or a guitar. It's like saying that pianos are the NEW harpsichords, and harpsichords are the...
