Re: Decent amp for a beginner?

Are you playing in the bedroom? or in a band rehearsal situation? What type of music? I have a really nice clone tube amp that rarely gets used in the house. Sounds amazing & is pretty loud from the getgo. For the house, I have a cheap little Fender Frontman 10g. It sounds pretty decent, clean. It h...

Re: Ensoniq ASR-X Sequencing Question

Sounds to me like they used the ASR10 as the computer/sequencer. They midi'd the sp1200,ASRx & Trident. It's pretty vague but, I'd guess the 909 & Rhodes were probably samples that were in the ASRX or ASR. The air has 8 channels that can run Simultaneously so, It makes a pretty decent controller/seq...

Re: Good MIDI Keyboard for Hardware?

The Ensoniq EPS16 & ASR10 samplers make good controllers & have the option of onboard sampling & sounds, effects, as well. Same with EPS Classic(no effects, though) Really depends on how you want to set up & work in your studio

Re: Long Shot. Looking for a Potentiometer ROLAND

I really hate to put non matching parts in. The knob is what makes the part match ;) Kind of joking, but somewhat serious because the exact part doesn't necessarily matter as long as the resistance and taper is the same, and so long as it will fit physically. I mean, the brand/model and the body of...

Long Shot. Looking for a Potentiometer ROLAND

Hey all! I've pulled apart my beloved Roland M160 rack mixer. It's had a long dead channel 14. I've narrowed it down to the input level Potentiometer. Seems to be a rare bird. It's a 5k mini with the following markings M5KohmsC theres also an 85 on the opposite side. 6mm D shaft about 10mm in length...

Re: Sequential Circuits Six Trak

Has it ever been opened up for a cleaning/service? Maybe some loose connections or keys not firing properly, scrambling the computer. I fixed my mirage & eps classic, recently. Pulled the keys & found 30+ years of built up "YUCK" causing all sorts of problems. It was a tedious adventure but, they bu...

Re: Ensoniq EPS 16 or Emax II

Yep, they'll be reliable if you're capable of and prepared to service them properly. But honestly, for sampling functionality and wild processing, even Ableton Live Lite runs rings around an EPS. I'm a hardware guy. How does it handle low bit rate sounds? I understand the ease of use but, the reaso...

Re: Ensoniq EPS 16 or Emax II

I was using my ASR & EPS16 live, last year. No Problems. Ive been inside my machines, cleaned them, replaced parts. They are vintage machines. They need a good going through to ensure road worthiness. Though, gingerly. They are classic machines after all. I don't own the Emax. I'm sure its a great m...

Re: Arturia and their ‘throw away’ approach to hardware

Were stuck in the age between salvaging vintage pieces for parts & machines not meant for replacement parts. It's kind a like a movie i knew. Only we're calling it "Synth Warrior" You think Mel Gibson is interested?

Re: Ensoniq EPS "disc not formatted" error

EPS16 & before had pretty limited onboard memory. Depending on your use, Floppy drive can suffice. If you are using it heavily & constantly changing files between songs, SCSI is much faster loading & much easier for loading & setting up banks.

Re: Ensoniq EPS "disc not formatted" error

I've posted this in multiple places. I've revived a floppy in my Mirage by removing some hair from the spinning arbor in the drive. It gave similar symptoms. It would begin to spin up then, stop. I pulled the drive, reset any connections i could & looked inside to find minimal amounts of hair & dust...

Re: Akai AX80 Membranes not Working

Rasputin probably knows best. Just as an added fyi, I just fixed both of my Mirage keyboards by disassembling the the keyboard assy, cleaning throughly & reassembling. The mechanical parts of these older machines can create their own issues, if they go unused for a length of time.
