Elka Rhapsody faders

Has anyone found a good replacement for the faders on an Elka Rhapsody 490? It seems most of them are missing the knobs or have broken tips. I understand the faders are surprisingly unique, with attached dust covers, and they fit very tightly in their top panel slots. So replacing them would probabl...

Re: Juno 60 Output Low Volume

I recently got a Juno 60 and I haven't noticed an issue with the volume level. Seems normal to me. But my Ensoniq ESQ-1 certainly has a low output. I have to turn the mixer up all the way to get a good level out of that synth.

Re: Kawai PS-101U AC power adapter alternative

Thanks for the suggestions. This is a sequencer, not a synth. It would only be connected to the synths via midi. The only audio involved would be the metronome. I don't know if it would hum under any circumstances. I don't know how to check voltage, especially in a sequencer. I could ask my local sy...

Kawai PS-101U AC power adapter alternative

What is the best substitute for a Kawai PS-101U AC power adapter? The input is AC120V 60Hz 17W. The output is DC10V 1000mA. The center pin is negative. I want to use it with a Kawai Q80 sequencer. Searching Google and ebay turns up many hits for the same Chinese-made replacements that give no techni...

Re: triple synth stands

Here is what my setup looks like now (except there is now a drum machine where the laptop is in these photos). https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2893/34088833225_0365f09e0d_b.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2873/34088832355_18afbefd72_b.jpg Just behind the white Panorama keyboard, out of frame, is a d...

Re: What synth is used in the gold HQ scene in Blade Runner?

Kevin, you own a CS80 and you can't make that BR Blues sound? I've read that it's Strings4 with the brilliance around 50 percent and resonance at 90 or 100 percent. And you own a CS40M, so you could try to duplicate it on that synth. If the only thing that makes you wonder is the pitch bend, I would...

Well done on all your lovely music on your CS60 - it sounds fabulous.

Thank you Kevin!

Re: Vangelis' keyboard setup back in 1975

Thanks for the photos Mooger5. The funny thing is that, instead of being awed by all the instruments, I'm more impressed by the multi-tiered music stands. That's where my brain is lately. In 2017, how do you stack big, heavy, vintage synths four high and keep it all within arm's reach? Custom Gibral...

Re: triple synth stands

Would a three-tier Standtastic be stable if you put keyboards on the upper two tiers but left the bottom tier empty? Would you trust that setup hovering over a valuable synth?

Re: What synth is used in the gold HQ scene in Blade Runner?

Here I am channeling that BR Blues sound on a Yamaha CS-60. If you can do this on a 60, of course you can do it on an 80.

Re: Synths and You (the collection of opinions)

1) The synth that made you want to play music: I didn't know what it was at the time, but the sounds of the Yamaha CS-80 made me say "I want to do that!" The Prophet 5 was also influential. 2) Your first synth: Yamaha DX21, unless you count the Casio VL-Tone. 3) The synth that has surprised you most...

Re: Have you noticed Roland D50 being so expensive?

I bought my D50 and M1 when they were new. Both are still chugging along. I hope I never get into a financial situation where I feel I have to sell them. They are beautiful, classic synths. And when you get away from the presets, it's surprising how versatile they are.

Re: Roland D-50 output jack accepts some cables, not others

I didn't buy the new cables just because of the D50. I generally wanted to upgrade my setup, including the cables. All my instrument cables were 20-25 years old, and were cheap to begin with, except for a couple Monster cables. Like I said, the new cables fit the D50 with no problem. I would be incl...

Re: Roland D-50 output jack accepts some cables, not others

No, I didn't think the battery was the problem. I was just noting that I had opened the keyboard recently and wasn't looking forward to opening it again soon. I switched all my cables to Mogami and Gotham. The new cables fit just fine. I spent about a grand on cables this year. Now I'm using all-new...
