The display isn't working, none of the LEDs light up and there is no sound on the output.
Check all the basics such as seeing that the CPU is getting 5V, clock, and reset.

That said... cross your fingers and hold down the STORE button while powering up. If you works again, you're blessed.

The saved patches stay in storage as long as the power adapter is plugged in (whether unit is on or off). Not much useful if the keyboard has to be moved around and I'd definately preffer if they resided permanently.
They just have to be battery backed, that's all.

Re: Yamaha PSS-480/580/680 firmware?

Replacing the Rom sounds would indeed make more sense. Are the 100 preset patches written in from sysex files? You would have to use an EPROM programmer to burn a new ROM and then open up the synth to replace the presets. And you'd also have to wire up a bank selector knob, etc. if you wanted to ex...

Re: Yamaha PSS-480/580/680 firmware?

Increasing the number of save slots is more what I had in mind than replacing the onboard sounds. Keep in mind that I haven't deeply explored this idea, but: I think increasing the amount of user patch slots is more or less "impossible" because (at least on the PSS-480/580) they are kept in 64K of ...

Re: Yamaha PSS-480/580/680 firmware?

Does anyone know if a firmware revision or update was ever released for these Yamaha keyboards? I'm wondering if there's a way to permanently replace the rom presets with custom ones. I think there are two separate questions there. If Yamaha ever released some "final update" for that series, it wou...

Re: Korg M1 buttons not working

Well I’m happy to say that way worked! All buttons function as they should, I know it’s not the proper fix but it works for me. I soldered the jumper wire to the exact points in your illustration, thank you so much for your input Rasputin & mooger I don’t think I would have found this info anywhere...

Re: Korg M1 buttons not working

Should I try a jumper from the third pin of CN4B to IC25 pin 13 (like in the photo drawing below) That's the right idea, but this picture might make the situation clearer. The purple area is the commonality between the buttons that aren't working. The red wire is a signal which usually passes from ...

Re: Korg M1 buttons not working

I jumped a wire from CN4B pin 3, to the third wire of connector CN5A on the mainboard and (strangely) the up/down buttons started working but would scroll through the settings out of order I'm assuming that was a typo and you mean CN4B on the mainboard side. But this should not be necessary if you ...

Re: s950 floppy drive replacement

BTW, those jumpers correspond to what I mentioned at the start of the thread:

Drive Select 0, Ready on pin 34, density on pin 2

FG (frame ground), REN (re-calibrate every power-up), DS0, RY34, HA, HO2

HO2 = HD signal output on pin 2
HA = density set automatically with diskette type

Roland Alpha Juno 1 Firmware Features Wishlist

Let's just say, *hypothetically*, someone was developing a software update for the JU-1. What software related features might one desire? OLED support falls within the domain of software, and that feature has already been released for the JU-2, so that's a given. Same thing with the All Notes Off MI...

Re: Long Shot. Looking for a Potentiometer ROLAND

I really hate to put non matching parts in. The knob is what makes the part match ;) Kind of joking, but somewhat serious because the exact part doesn't necessarily matter as long as the resistance and taper is the same, and so long as it will fit physically. I mean, the brand/model and the body of...

Re: s950 floppy drive replacement

- my biggest concern is above pin2 there's a scratch over the track, pretty sure I didn't do that... was that done by the modifier to block the original path? it looks like it goes to DNS (where the gap hasn't been bridged yet) is that the density select thingy? Correct on both assumptions. I forgo...

Re: s950 floppy drive replacement

I bought on ebay and disk drive modified to work in an Amiga. I was told they work with s950's. I've taken everything apart on the s950 and swapped drives over. Akai S950 has to be: pin 2 - density pin 34 - ready and drive ID 0 Amiga is drive ID 0, so that's correct. But pin 2 is diskchange, not de...

Re: EMU ESI-32 crackling sound and distorted playback

My ESI-32 has a crackling sound coming out the right channel on the main outputs and headphones jack. The machine also plays back anything that I sample into it very loud and distorted. Couple questions: What about playback of other presets (factory banks etc.) which you personally did not sample w...

Re: Ensoniq EPS "disc not formatted" error

(I always wondered why that one piece of software info wasn't just hardwired into the sequencer.) Because the floppy drive was already needed so that users could save samples. Having additional ROM storage would have driven up the price of the sampler. Also, further OS revisions would then require ...
