Re: Ensoniq VFX-SD stuck in display self-test mode

All the PSU voltages are within spec except Vres going to the mainboard which is 2.48VDC. I think George already gave you a lot of good technical advice. In other words, disconnect the PSU from any other boards so that the reset line cannot be dragged down by a fault from any other boards (display,...

Re: Ensoniq ASR-X Sequencing Question

like i said, split the loops up... Your answer was vague and non-committal, in my eyes, so I was giving a firmer explanation as to (what I'm assuming to be) the process. "Split the loops up" could mean that they used each 909, Trident, Rhodes, and SP1200 section independently and then layered them....

Re: Ensoniq ASR-X Sequencing Question

I interpreted that as the ASR10 was being used to record major segments (from a mixer 2-bus) such as verse, chorus, etc. and then they just played the verse section 4x, chorus 8x, or whatever for the entire arrangement. Similar to the concept of flying in the choruses on a DAW.

if I press the parameter group up button Im getting "card not ready" on the display !
Hold down the two bottom-right keys and then power on the D110. This should put you into test mode.

- Go through switch test at the very least.

Let's make sure there's nothing strange going on with the unit.

This only happens with B and C keys on the lower octaves
Fairly random guess? Bad diodes in the key matrix in that specific section which ordinarily would prevent "ghosting".

These discs are hard to find and they shouldn't be! I especially object to people making money out of these.
Highly agree.

Valiant attempt, sir! But I believe you copy/pasted a truncated link :(

The display isn't working, none of the LEDs light up and there is no sound on the output.
Check all the basics such as seeing that the CPU is getting 5V, clock, and reset.

That said... cross your fingers and hold down the STORE button while powering up. If you works again, you're blessed.

The saved patches stay in storage as long as the power adapter is plugged in (whether unit is on or off). Not much useful if the keyboard has to be moved around and I'd definately preffer if they resided permanently.
They just have to be battery backed, that's all.

Re: Yamaha PSS-480/580/680 firmware?

Replacing the Rom sounds would indeed make more sense. Are the 100 preset patches written in from sysex files? You would have to use an EPROM programmer to burn a new ROM and then open up the synth to replace the presets. And you'd also have to wire up a bank selector knob, etc. if you wanted to ex...

Re: Yamaha PSS-480/580/680 firmware?

Increasing the number of save slots is more what I had in mind than replacing the onboard sounds. Keep in mind that I haven't deeply explored this idea, but: I think increasing the amount of user patch slots is more or less "impossible" because (at least on the PSS-480/580) they are kept in 64K of ...

Re: Yamaha PSS-480/580/680 firmware?

Does anyone know if a firmware revision or update was ever released for these Yamaha keyboards? I'm wondering if there's a way to permanently replace the rom presets with custom ones. I think there are two separate questions there. If Yamaha ever released some "final update" for that series, it wou...

Re: Korg M1 buttons not working

Well I’m happy to say that way worked! All buttons function as they should, I know it’s not the proper fix but it works for me. I soldered the jumper wire to the exact points in your illustration, thank you so much for your input Rasputin & mooger I don’t think I would have found this info anywhere...

Re: Korg M1 buttons not working

Should I try a jumper from the third pin of CN4B to IC25 pin 13 (like in the photo drawing below) That's the right idea, but this picture might make the situation clearer. The purple area is the commonality between the buttons that aren't working. The red wire is a signal which usually passes from ...

Re: Korg M1 buttons not working

I jumped a wire from CN4B pin 3, to the third wire of connector CN5A on the mainboard and (strangely) the up/down buttons started working but would scroll through the settings out of order I'm assuming that was a typo and you mean CN4B on the mainboard side. But this should not be necessary if you ...
