Re: Prophet Rev2 question - 4 pole filter option

Ah OK, thanks for clarifying it. Perhaps it can be thought of more of a sweepable parametric EQ for those sounds that don't require much resonance, like RobustAmerican said, on strings.

Re: The JX-10 – an underrated synth

GS, I also never used the JX-10 on bass and then I bought a used 8p and the previous owner made a bass patch that was just a killing sound. He did an odd combo of both oscillators, something I never would have thought of myself. Like you, I reach for a mono synths (Monopoly or CS-30) for bass (or ev...

Re: Prophet Rev2 question - 4 pole filter option

But what about when the Rev2 4-pole is off. Does it feel like even cranking the resonance all the way has a very subtle broad effect?

Prophet Rev2 question - 4 pole filter option

The Prophet 8 (beautiful sounding synth) has a 4-pole button that, at least for my personal use, is on all the time. This is unlike the Jupiter 8, for example, that I tend to actually use the 12 db/oct setting more. This is because when the 4-pole is off on the Prophet 8, it's benign, more so than a...

Re: Analogue Polyphonic Synth Recommendations

Another synth to possibly check out is the Behringer Deepmind. I've never played one, but it looks like a very capable analog synth for those on a tight budget. You could get that along with a nice mono synth, like a Novation Bass Station II (or a Behringer ModelD) within your budget.

Re: Analogue Polyphonic Synth Recommendations

I have a Prophet 8 and love the sound. The Rev2 should have the same characteristics as the 8, except more features and power. You can't go wrong with a Rev2 from Dave Smith. It can create pretty much any analog sound you are after.

The JX-10 – an underrated synth

I've just been re-united with an old friend, and what a great old friend she is. Years ago, for many years, I had only a single synth – a JX8p. And I made some of my best music with that one synth. Since then business has been good and I now have a nice collection of synthesizers including a Jupiter...

Re: Oberheim OBXa vs. ???

For $1-2K I would recommend a Juno 60 (single osc per voice with chorus) or a Prophet 8. It depends what you want though. However, from just over $2,000 you are in range for a Prophet 12 keyboard, which is virtually alone in the field of what it can do. The keyboard action is beautiful, build qualit...

Re: Oberheim OBXA Rear Outputs

Assuming the OB-Xa has 8 voices (some have 4 or 6), each time you press a note, the next voice in turn will play. So if you opened the top panel to look inside (just take the top two screws off each of the wood sides and open the top lid) tapped one note repeatedly, you would see the next voice card...

Re: Roland JX showdown: JX-3P vs JX-8P vs Super JX10

First, I don't want to take anything away from anyone who prefers one over the other, because, who am I or anyone to disagree with someone's musical taste. We all have different needs, ears, and brains. Having said that, IMO for most musicians I think comparing a JX3p to a JX8p is like comparing a u...
