Peavey Spectrum Synth, Strange Acting on MIDI, No Output

I got a Peavey Spectrum synth via ebay. The seller said it worked fine prior to shipping. The issue is that sometimes when I plug in the power adapter, the three digit seven segment display shows partial characters. Other times it powers on fine, but when it receives a MIDI signal the display flashe...

Re: Korg EX-8000 - No Audio

Nevermind. It works! I just had to load a patch to it. I guess the initialize does not load any factory patches.

Korg EX-8000 - No Audio

Hi. I got a used EX-8000 that has no sound. I took it completely apart to fix broken circuit board mounts, and reassembled it. It wasn't doing much of anything until I did the initialize procedure (hold 5 and 8 while powering on). Now the display and functions seem to work normally -- I can select a...

Re: Akai AX-60 Custom Firmware (Akai AX60)

I agree with the "awesome thread" comment. I have an AX60 that I have yet to touch (remodeling the house). I look forward to what may develop on this. Would this mod also apply to the VX90?

Thanks for the smarts!

Re: Akai S900 Locking Up when pressing Rec or Edit Sample

Looks like you have a memory fault which might be causing one of the data lines to stick. The memory itself should not be too hard to find but unfortunately it is soldered in place on the S900 Thanks. I am wondering if that may be the case. I don't know how exactly to find the problem chip though. ...

Akai S900 Locking Up when pressing Rec or Edit Sample

I got an S900 from ebay. It powers on with OS 1.2c chips installed. It locks up if Rec or Edit Sample buttons are pressed. I re-seated all connectors and removable chips. It passes audio from the Rec In to the Mix Out when powered on. I did the RAM test, is says "Bad RAM Bit DJ09". I don't know if t...

Re: Roland D-110 dim backlight

I thought I would post my result of this display replacement. Going by the result of all the hard work others put in to determine how to make the display work, it was a breeze to do the wiring. I got a 14 pin flat cable and connectors kit, and made the cable with the pins 1 & 2 swapped as described ...

Cheers.
When it involves me, nothing should go without saying.

Just saying.

Thanks for all the assistance.

Re: Oberheim Matrix 1000, notes bump, and other things

Simply adjust the VR until it sounds good to you and be done with it. Enjoy your M1000. Yea. I did notice that where I left it after my initial tweek some low notes wouldn't sound. Also, when adjusting it, the timbre of the sound changes slightly, and abruptly, at one particular point during the ro...

Re: Oberheim Matrix 1000, notes bump, and other things

Ok, I checked the voltage on that DAC test point (TP9) based on chassis ground. With no sound playing, I got a changing voltage between 0.65v or so and 0.78v or so. I tried to reduce the voltage, but the trim pot was already near the bottom. I got it to about .4. But at the lower voltage the synth d...

Re: Oberheim Matrix 1000, notes bump, and other things

Test Mode 2: Multimeter set to read DC, red probe on TP9, black probe on adjacent GND point. Adjust VR701 to zero volts. I was re-reading the thread and saw this. I had missed it before. Would I need to be playing a sound when adjusting, or just do it with the power on. Also, I assume I would need ...

Re: Oberheim Matrix 1000, notes bump, and other things

I will have to remove capacitors to check the values. You need a capacitance meter for that. Some multimeters also read capacitances. Or you could just replace the caps. The picture you posted... The PCB area that´s significantly whitened... is it just the flash effect? I have a multimeter that can...

Re: Oberheim Matrix 1000, notes bump, and other things

Those white capacitors have a larger footprint to look stock. I´m guessing a previous owner modded that M1000 or attempted a repair, so who knows what other changes were made. ESR values might be useful, but it´s capacitance that has to be measured for now. Doesn´t that meter read it? Are there uF,...
