Doesn't totally need it but you could!

There's a lot of mastering you can do right in ableton, just through careful use of a multiband compressor and a limiter at the end of your master chain.

I got myself a Yamaha CS-01 and a Yamaha Portasound PSS-480 on the same day. And boy do they go well together. The CS-01 is a great little analog monosynth. To start out, just use one operator to modulate another. The synth has a bunch of operators and when they're all modulating each-other in this big crazy way, it gets confusing real fast.
