Fear is Part of You
Humbly submitting my new composition, Fear is Part of You, created entirely (except for vocal chopping) on my MODX. It's inspired by and based around a talk given in the 70s by spiritual teacher Juddu Krisnhamurti. https://soundcloud.com/veganpianoguy/fear-is-part-of-you Rough around the edges, but ...

First ever track... (TOP, Heathens remix)
Hey guys, So, I humbly submit myself to the world of constructive criticism :) This is my first ever track, made and recorded on my Yamaha MODX. I would welcome any and all advice, since I know nothing about mixing/mastering or electronic music production in general. (I'm in the middle of moving hou...

Re: Which would you buy out of...
Thanks, guys. Yes the MPC Live does indeed look great. I watched an interesting video comparing it with the Digitakt and the woman said the key difference was she didn't find the Live inspiring; you had to know going in what you wanted to create, whereas on the 'Takt (and probably the MC 707) you co...

Which would you buy out of...
What's up guys, hoping to get some expert buying advice. The situation: looking to get a groovebox for my wife and myself. I'm a musician, somewhat conversant in synths (I have a MODX) and the whole field, but she's a total noob. We're looking for an all-in-one track-making box to generally jam with...

Re: Yamaha MODX - can I use an external sequencer?
Thank you, I'll give it a go. While you're here, and since you seem to know about the MODX, do you know if it can be mounted as a discoverable drive on a PC? In other words, will it show up in My Computer so I can edit MIDI files that live on the MODX, or would I need to manually save the MIDI files...

Re: Yamaha MODX - can I use an external sequencer?
Thanks.
OK so if I understand right I can't edit MIDI data that began life on the MODX, but I can (you think) import new MIDI data live into the MODX from a sequencer.
That's what I'm after.

Yamaha MODX - can I use an external sequencer?
Hey guys I've got a MODX and it's been my intro into synthesisers (quite an intro) but one thing that bugs me on a daily basis is the lack of sequencer, which lives live-recording as the only option for creating drum parts. Obviously this imposes severe limitations on making complex drum patterns ve...

Re: Question re: "jam boxes" e.g. NI Maschine, Novation Circuit etc
Thanks for the continued help, guys. Re: wathcing beginner tutorials, I've done little else, along with review vids, and lots of reading, for the last two weeks, as I get clued up on all this stuff. It's a minefield when you're new to it. In fact I just posted a new thread asking for thoughts on the...

Re: Maschine - should I switch?
Thank you both for your advice. @Meatballfulton, well, OK, sure, but that doesn't really help me right now. Anyway I've explained my rationale for why I bought the MODX - it was an excellent compromise at the time between my need for a new piano and wanting to get into synth. At the time I loved the...

Advice on a multi-hardware device setup
I think I've resolved that the way of working that attracts me most is via multiple hardware devices rather than software or something like a workstation. I'm mostly a synth noob, though I'm a classical pianist so I know music and its theory. I've done a lot of research and watched a lot of vids, an...

Re: Question re: "jam boxes" e.g. NI Maschine, Novation Circuit etc
So I think maybe first concentrate looking for something that will be the main driver (sequencer) while imagining the kind of work flow you might want. Is it important to work quickly, experiment, and knock out beats and riffs on the fly? Is it important to have a measured deliberate way to get dow...

Re: Question re: "jam boxes" e.g. NI Maschine, Novation Circuit etc
Hi Groy - thanks for the replies. My current position is this. The MODX is my only piece of kit. I got Cubase AI with it which I'm yet to load up. My knowledge of how software and hardware work together is currently very limited. I watch videos of people running various, disparate synth boxes, effec...

Re: Question re: "jam boxes" e.g. NI Maschine, Novation Circuit etc
Thanks @groy. I'm principally interested in making what often gets called IDM, or intelligent dance music. Some of the more interesting techno, that sort of thing. I've spent my life listening to the stuff but never sought to make it. Very much in flux at the moment. As I mentioned, I went for the M...
