Re: Korg Monologue

The thing about the envelopes in the video is a major point. Paul Nagle, who,is making the point, brings it up in most of his reviews in Sound on Sound. The frustrating thing is something like the Novation Ultranova, a pure digital synth, behaves in the correct way, so there should be no excuses tha...

Re: Korg Monologue

It doesn't sound that great for the money. I'd rather get a used BS2.

Re: Hans Zimmer's score to Days of Thunder setup?

I recall an article in Keyboard at the time and he had the Fairlight CMI 3, and then lots of rack gear, TX816, MKS80 and LOTS of S1000's. I think I recall mention of a Moog been sampled for bass stuff. I'm afraid my copy is long gone.

Re: the reality of using aged analog kit live - please be ho

Only ever played out once with an old synth, a Juno 106, no issues.

Most punters have no idea what you use anyway, unless it's something very specific you require.

The Ultranova is a great buy and can do almost anything. Blofeld keyboard too are great.

Just one thing too...

I found with my Xpanders, just because you could, it didn't mean you had to.

Got some nice tones keeping it simple.

Re: Thoughts on the Korg MS2000R ?

I think the MS/MicroKorg engine is not bad really, the DWGS waves really give it a massive amount of timbres. Just know that the sync issue on the 2000's is a problem, cured on the Micro however.

Re: Original Korg MS-20 Sequencer

If your looking for a step sequencer then check out the Doepfer Dark Time, just make sure you get the trigger mod done so it'll work with the MS.

There are lots of options depending on budget however.

Re: Thoughts on the Korg MS2000R ?

MS2000 won't ever sync to Midi clock with is a massive main since they made a huge deal out of the sequencing side. It's not too shabby, but certainly you would be better off with an R3, not as nobby but more powerful and about the same price, or a Radias.

Re: arturia poly synth......when is the ?

I do think there is a cost thing when we are talking VCO poly as well. The price of the only available 8 voice VCO poly available at the moment is what, $5k? The other newer polysynths available with analogue filters are cheaper but all have been bashed for different reasons (DCO, digital oscillator...

Re: multiple minibrutes

Would be similar to playing an Oberheim 2/4/8 voice in that each voice would not be 100% the same due to the fact each synth will not be exactly the same as the next in relation to its settings. Gives a nice timbre however.

Re: arturia poly synth......when is the ?

It will be the standard response if they do build a poly… "Too expensive!"

As Stab has said, I would like a bigger keyboard version, 37/44 key.

Re: Deciding between a Prophet 5 Rev 2 or rev 3 or??. Help!!

Greg Montalbano in Oakland (analogsynthervice.com) also works on Rev 1s/2s and will be much cheaper than WC and do an excellent job.... I always thought WC used Greg anyway?? Main issue is power supplies and internal build quality that has been mentioned. My tech mentioned he had one that he repair...
