Re: Starting over from scratch

Just to follow up:

I finally got the x-station. It does exactly what I need, and its wonderful.

Three days later, another one comes up on craigslist for half the price I paid. D'oh!

Extremely simple sampler for iPhone?

Long time no see, VSE. A friend of mine is looking for a very simple sampler for iOS. I've seen "Sampler," which is ok, and is a pretty charming descendant of the Casio SK-1, but I'm looking for something more like an MPC or a radio DJ sound board -- one button per sample. Beatmaker is way too compl...

Re: Starting over from scratch

Update: the m-audio keystudio retails for about $100, which certainly is an attractive price. I used to have an 88es and while it wasn't amazing it was certainly acceptable. Anyone have any thoughts on the quality of the preamps/ converters? Certainly better than a behringer mixer plugged into the l...

Re: Starting over from scratch

Thanks guys, I'll definitely have to check out the x-station. Anyone else have experience with the m-audio ozone controllers? And any idea how I could A/B them?

Starting over from scratch

Hey Gang. This was me, five years ago: http://www.vintagesynth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2288&hilit=setup&start=1312 All of this is gone now, either sold or broken. My entire "rig" has been reduced to a macbook running Ableton Live, a baritone guitar, and a Shure SM-7A, because that's all I ever...

Re: Multiple instances of FX running parallel

well, most multiples on modular synths are strictly passive, so you could just get one of those modules and cover the back in electrical tape.

Re: yamaha FB01 rack kit (mount 2 side by side)

i usually duct tape half rack units to whatever full rack item theyre sitting on; its not pretty but you cant really tell in a fully laden rack. that thing looks like it uses up a whole second space, which seems pretty wasteful for an fb01 of all things.

Re: How have Arturia Origin sales been?

in case you weren't aware, this guy is a pretty big deal.
Isn't this whole thread just a reiteration of the "are VAs just softsynths in a box" thread?

Re: How have Arturia Origin sales been?

deb76 - are you comparing the arturia origin against arturia's software, or other brands? What were saying is that the origin will sound the same as the CS80v or MinimoogV, not the same as native instruments or mda plugins emulating the same synth. as far as an actual (street) price breakdown goes: ...

Re: About the Korg Polysix Legacy edition...

i had a broken polysix. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default ... tent=music
its fun to sample, not so much fun to play. if youre lucky you might find one thats already had the meltdown and the owner is dumping it for $50, like i did.

Re: Are virtual analogs just soft synths with their own...

There's never been a record made where I said "wow this would be so much better if they had used a different synth", and what synths are used never affects my feelings about the music. I have to disagree with that. I can think of plenty of records where I think "why oh why did they use this synth?"...

From now on, I'm calling VAs and digital hardware synths "firmsynths."

Let's say you already have a juno-6. how difficult would it be to add an external input so you can use its filter and/or chorus?

Re: Logic Studio or Ableton Live Suite?

you can get a free demo of ableton from their website:
http://www.ableton.com/downloads
and the LE version comes with nearly every single m-audio product.
session view is great if you do loop based music, or you want a "playable" sequencer for live remixing or whatevs.
there is a grid drums editor.
