Re: Which Synth Had The Worst User Interface Ever?

Good old thread resurrected, so just for yucks...

POKE 54296,15:POKE 54296,0 make a click sound

Now THAT's a user interface!

(Hint:SID)

BTW: I had a very strange synth trajectory (C64>CZ-101>DX7IIFDE!>Mirage rack>Prophecy>FS1r). Big fun!

Re: DX7II with Grey Matter questions

I remember reading somewhere that Yamaha "philosophers" felt that instruments were supposed to be hard to play. Ergo the "gift" of Yammy madness.
(Maybe put the E card in SE!quencer mode?)

A line out of Monty Python comes to mind here, but yes you can run it standalone without a PC.

Re: Korg Prophecy as a controller

I'm no pro but IMHO you're in for quite the ride. As a mono synth it's quite the little old beastie unto itself.
As a controller there's just 37 keys but it's got great articulation via a nice and spongy keyboard aftertouch and the ribbon log can be quite useful.
Good hunting!

Re: Aren't we due for a new Yamaha QY module?

Funny thread. Personally, I don't think that we will ever see another QY...way too much horsepower under our own hoods. Thanks though, for the tip on the Mobile Seq! (Side story: I was selling a Leslie sometime ago and the buyer showed up early. So I needed a quick sound source to demonstrate to the...

Re: Yamaha AN200 data encoder repair

I had this problem with a DX200. Without taking the unit apart, just removing the cap of the encoder and using liberal amounts of de-oxit circuit cleaner spray right at the encoder and flipping the DX upside down to drain a few times while exercising the knob fixed the problem. Data encoder now work...

Re: What is the worst thing that you have ever done to a syn

Bought an E! card out of an old beat up DX7II at a pawn shop.
Gutted the synth right there on the pawn shop floor. Customers walked around me in horror.
Reloaded the "stock" synth with "new" patches and all was good.
Walked away, card in hand.
(Good thing synths don't bleed.)
8-)

adamstan that link appears to be dead.

Dave Benson's page is still up and is probably THE singular greatest resource for all things DX.

Re: Synth newbie: Owning Multiple DX7's - DX7II vs. DX5

Time Tunnel Or, Yea though I walk through the valley of DX. Lucky me, I couldn't afford much so I waited, and waited for the dust to settle as the prices of used gear plummeted to affordability, and all the new stuff remained out of reach. The gemstone that fell out of favor mostly because it was "d...

Re: How to DIY repaint a synth (w/ mask, writings...)

On the relatively cheap side, model train makers are your friend. Tiny miniature type decals are available in a good variety of sizes, fonts, and colors. Just right for detail panel labeling. Kinda comical though because there is a learning curve before getting it right (tiny lettering placement is ...

While perhaps not the worst interface, but the CZ-101 interface was pretty bad.

Re: Yamaha Dx7 iifd (no sound)

Easy one...you've got to turn on "Local Control". It's most likely set to "Local Off".
(At work now so I can't guide you through the menus but dig a bit and you will find it.)

Korg iM1 for iPad in case you missed it...

is out and it's quite nice.
It's vintage and soft so should get a mention here. Small footprint, all the cards, and then some.

Re: Greetings From Yamaha USA Pro Music Customer Support

Hi Bob!

Tell the folks we said thanks for Synth Book.
And, can we get the updated AN2015 in the US store?
(And while you're at it, an FS2015 or SY2015 would be nice too.)
