Re: New Moog
I'm not too sexually agitated by those "under the hood features". It just sounds like "we couldn't be arsed to make front panel controls for this stuff". Clearly a step down from the Little Phatty (when a step up was badly needed to begin with).

Re: Mfb Synths
The MFB units I own are a mixed bag. The eurorack modular stuff is great value for money and rich in features and very well thought-out. Couldn't live without the OSC-02 and the dual LFO especially. The SEQ-02 is great too but the user interface is a bit confusing. The MFB-503 has a lovely sound (to...

Re: Roland MT32 Love
a quick Google brought up a company called Real World Interfaces who made mods for the MT32 and an interesting PDF on the inner workings of Rolands` LA chip(s) and some hackers insight as to the inner workings of the D50/10/110/20 as well.. It's a very interesting PDF for sure. Robin Whittle has be...

Re: New Korgs
Not that much longer than it is now. We'll all be tired of the new MS20 when reality catches up to it.meatballfulton wrote:Hmm, how long will this thread be by the time we know the real answer?

Re: Stylophone S2 - new analog version
Also.. apparently the video is nothing more than a tease & a 'it exists' type post for those that've already paid and signed up to the beta. Uh-oh.. the poor bastards. I remember seeing very similar things happening with the bC16 now that you mention it. I'm sure it's a lovely instrument but that g...

Re: New Korgs
Doesn't matter to me though as long as it plays nice with other patchable gear. All those AD and DA stages would push the cost through the roof though, cheaper to do it in analogue. :thumbright: Well, a patch panel would be trivial to implement with digital tech. In that case, no audio signals woul...

Re: New Korgs
have they ever used the same chassis on two different boards? seems velly velly suspissious... They do it all the time. Making those plastic injection molding metal molds is expensive. I mean the ER-1 and the EA-1 were like that as were the KP mini and kaossilators. Same shape - different colors an...

I'm guessing the grille type hole on the left there is for those tubes they put in electribes?

Re: Stylophone S2 - new analog version
I *really* don't get how they expect to sell these without putting a minimum of effort into recording the audio in decent quality. A standard PC has awesome recording quality these days and yet they go with recording off the internal speaker using a microphone. With some more spit and polish in thei...

Re: modular and bass stations
What attracted me to synthesizers in the first place was the promise of being able to craft my own sounds. After a while you get tired of the standard subtractive formula oscillator->filter->amplitude with a couple of simple modulators. What if you want more complex modulators or if you want to add ...

Re: The VCO vs DCO thread
Apart from defining DCO vs VCO I think it would be interesting to discuss what scientific properties make VCOs sound the way they do in comparison with DCOs--again not subjectively in terms of preference it rather objectively in terms of measurable information. The jitter of a phase accumulator osc...

Re: The VCO vs DCO thread
I perceive it as more of a question of "how good are DCOs?". There are some examples of DCOs with less-than-stellar sound quality like the early MFB ones (such as the OSC-01 eurorack module).

Re: The VCO vs DCO thread
Now, i won't pretend that i understand the details of the technical implementation here but wouldn't reseting an analogue oscillator with a digital phase accumulator oscillator every waveform period produce some degree of aliasing or jitter? I seriously doubt that the digital reset signals for the w...

Slightly off-topic perhaps but...
Are keytars actually playable? Seriously.
