Re: Studio Cabin Fever

I used to often have the same thing happen to me. I identified these problems: 1. I wasn't eating enough, so I was losing track of time and then ending up hungry and tired 2. My studio choices had favored complexity and opportunity over usability and enjoyable workflow (so I got a patchbay and set u...

Italo-Disco 1986 Reverbs

Re: Logic / computer corrupting sysex (?)

OK I figured it out after a lot of research. Here are my conclusions: 1. Logic 9 has an undocumented bug where it corrupts sysex sent through it. Other people have had this problem too. It records sysex just fine, but you can't live edit. 2. Midi Pipe (a free piece of software that people often reco...

Logic / computer corrupting sysex (?)

So I have a windows laptop with SY Manager, an editor for my Yamaha Tg77. The laptop is connected to a little midi interface. When I connect the laptop's usb midi interface directly to the TG77, everything works as it should, and I can edit the TG77. However, I want the tg77 connected to my mac so I...

Re: I'm getting a Machinedrum UW, is the Drive or TM-1 worth

Thanks Sir Nose and phesago for your advise. My goal with getting the Machinedrum is to keep the computer out of the creative process until it's time to record and mix, so it sounds like the +Drive is a good choice. Do you not use the Roland cause you don't like sampling on it or cause you just don'...

I'm getting a Machinedrum UW, is the Drive or TM-1 worth it?

Pretty set on a Machinedrum UW mkii. Is the +Drive worth it? Is the TM-1 worth it (with or without the +Drive)? A lot of the ones I'm seeing on eBay don't come with these (and go for a bit cheaper...) thanks m8s Bonus question if you like: I already have a Roland S760 that I don't use much... is the...

Examples of great mixing and mastering?

I got Scritti Politti - Provision on cd and it's probably one of the best-mixed and best-mastered albums I've ever heard. I accept that their pop sound may not be for everyone, but the awesome dynamic range of the TX816 layers with those tiny reverbs is amazing. I use this as a test cd when I'm doin...

Re: Extreme 3D audio imaging, what's going on?

Flipping the phase on one side of a reverb return always makes things sound like they're coming from outside the speakers. Trashes things if it gets summed to mono, but people listening in mono deserve bad sound quality. ;) Another easy trick to get something sounding really wide is to have a delay...

It is, I dug very deep into the machine but found it limiting.
To me, the Wavestation is way more interesting.
Are TG-77s still around $200? If so, buy now. Much better sound quality than a wavestation.

Extreme 3D audio imaging, what's going on?

So I was listening to some italodisco tracks (as I do), and I started playing this track on my A7s. Somehow I'm getting a completely extreme sense of imaging / direction from this track. The drums and elements seem all distinct and much farther 'forward' than usual, as if they are in the room in fro...

Re: Low cut or EQ attenuation?

sometimes I do low cut at 100hz but then boost with a peaking filter at 80hz. using a 6db oct Low cut filter this gives you a tight pop at 80hz with a good slope off below that. While kicks are3 supposed to be low I find that more often than not 80hz is where the kick really lives. This is a good t...
