Re: My dark electro pop / new horror synth

Super stuff! I really dig the second one a lot. They both have a bit of grit or lo-fi that I really like. I'm generally a big fan of this style of dark as well, so that might bias into it too. I noticed in your gear list that you don't have a DX-7/802/mkII at all. If you go down this route you may w...

Re: The Alesis Andromeda is DEAD

The only one I tried stopped working 5 minutes after power-on. While it was working, it was that same harsh and muddy character I heard on the wohmart site. Didn't like it at all. Made me want to go play my Virus. If I'm playing a 44kg synth, I tend to expect a character that reminds me of my vinyl...

Re: The Alesis Andromeda is DEAD

I might have bought one if there was one to try and demo in our area. I have no idea if I would even like it. I bought a Voyager. I had the same issue, with no A6s anywhere in sight to demo. I owned one about 5 years ago, but reluctantly sold it due to personal issues. I knew I'd definitely get one...

Re: Drums on Depeche Modes Strangelove

i think by music for the masses they were pretty self-conscious about sampling real drums, however the hi-hats in "strangelove" sound very much like an 808 The hats sound like highly EQ'd acoustic samples in this video (definately not 808): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIrm0dHbCDU One of the girl...

Re: All Yamaha FM, No Cheese Track

Thanks, appreciate the feedback. Upon listening to it again, I realize how sloppily it was thrown together (no quantizing or anything, just realtime tracking into Record). I might go back and redo it more properly. Most of those patches come from the Hypra-Rom for the DX7 which is just awesome. High...

All Yamaha FM, No Cheese Track

Hey there- Thought I'd see what sounds I could coax out of my TX802, that to my ears, have never been heard before (meaning no crappy EP patches). I absolutely love this synth the more I mess with it. It has an amazing response to velocity, has a pure, clean sound, and covers the entire aural spectr...

A Universal Editor/Librarian for Hardware?

Quick question for the board: My humble studio consists of mostly hardware synthesizers--mostly rackmount, made mostly before 1990. I have a need of managing various sysex patches for my synths, and it's becoming quite painful. Just last night I was attempting to upload some Hypra-Rom DX7 patches to...

Re: I guess I’m just not a big fan of DCO’s

I find osc 1 sounds better on a tuesday than on a thursday. Tuesday is phatter by far. But osc 2 has more analogue drift on a thursday. What should I do? I want to make the best fwonk I can, should I record on a wednesday? At what time, maybe midday? [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0IHhs4X...

Re: Roland MKS-7 Rack Ears?

Wow, yeah those are pricey. Thanks for the heads-up though!

I ended up buying a pair from the guy in Australia from the first eBay auction I listed. Much less than $60, but hey, if you need 'em!

Thx again.

Re: Roland MKS-7 Rack Ears?

Right, except strangely, my MKS is black and it's still missing rack ears. Guess someone didn't want them on there at some point in the past.

Damn, you're right. Just missed an auction too:

Thanks for the tip about all the MKS series being interchangeable.

Roland MKS-7 Rack Ears?

I recently purchased an MKS-7, but it didn't come with rack ears. Does anybody know where I could find replacements, or the possibility of other synths (likely of the Roland variety) whose ears will also fit this beastie? If not, I'll measure and make them myself. Thought I'd ask first. Thx! Eric

Re: Would it be possible to mod the RS7000?

I'll have to look into more of the capabilities of the RS while using built-in sounds. The drawback of using mostly external gear is you lose out on these sorts of features. Thanks for the tip!

Re: Would it be possible to mod the RS7000?

How many of you RS users use it primarily for sequencing external gear? I owned an RS many years ago and used it as my main rhythm box, with the built-in drum sounds. It never clicked for me, as I found them mostly not to my taste. I then went through a phase, sold off all my equipment (including th...
