technically, if you can hear it on your PC then you can sample it. My soundblaster thingy soundcard has a setting in the control panel thingy that says "record what you hear". I check it then I just play the file on my PC and press record in Cool Edit. You can also get a free app (sorry can't think ...

Oh no dount they excel in the ease of use dept... I love the simplicity of their sequencers. However, the resulting sounds are not that great unless you process the h**l out of them. Ear of the beholder and all that... I like my tribes more than any other gear. Even the lowly ER-1 has a place in my...

I generally sample from older material. Lots of great spoken word, self help, records from the 50's. It's interesting how people got their information from records back in the day. For instance I got an outstanding record from the 50's about how to teach yourself ESP and how to read minds. wow! awes...

I would guess their asking price would be $5000, actual retail price of $4500-4800.

This just looks like Akai's answer to the Roland MV sample workstations.

I don't hate the TB-303 (tried one myself, was confusing but I love the sound), I just think anyone who buys one these days for the price they go is out of their minds, because even though they sound nice and all, they are definitely not worth the price. Obviously, they are worth the price or the m...

"wow that's some nice 'organs'" (when looking at my synth stand) "this thing has no keys, how do you play it" (when looking at my desktop/rack gear I hate it when the non-music person assumes a synth is an "electronic piano". me: "wow I got a killer new synth" lamer: "oh, i didn't know you could pl...

the 1000 is kind of weird. or just takes some getting use to. i can never seem to create what i want, it always comes out sounding different. but plenty of fun playing around with the time correction and swing.
and the pads do seem a bit stiff but not that bad.

Good. Worth the money.
Just don't expect too much out of it. My first synth, I also have the newer EMX-1, and don't plan on selling either.
Great for "acid" bass.

There are some great links to educating yourself about synths and music production in the General Synthesizer section of this forum, stickied up at the top. "READ THIS if you're looking at choosing a new synth!". Lots of good info can be found. I would also recomend the Korg ESX-1. Easy to use, fun ...
