I dont think the ES-1 is particularly good for triggering samples. Yes, you can do it, but it is more phrase/groove-box machine. Keep in mind the little memory it has as well. the Korg ER1 is quick, easy, fun and cheap. I think the most complaints are it's overall "thin" sound and it's rather weak snare sounds.
