Ultravox never used one, they used a TR-77, aheavily modified CR-78 and a Linn. Aphex Twin however
did use a TR-505 at one time.
Specifically a Linn 9000 (unless they used other Linn units before that)... as I used to own Warren Canns old one. :D

Re: What is the best synthesizer ever ..in your opinion ?

yes, but I wouldn't credit the laptop as being the synthesizer... the software is..... so are we talking Reaktor being the best?..... or Kyma if the laptop is connected to a Capybara/Pacarana? :) For me, it's the Kurzi K2600.... or does a sampler with synthesis functionality not count as a synthesiz...

Marion MS-1 (often referred to as a programmable Matrix 1000 but apparently let down by slow envelope gens).

Re: Any demos of the Octave Plateau Voyetra 8??

Yep, early/mid New Order is usually the reference for Voyetra 8 listening, check the Low Life album (and possibly Brotherhood but not 100% sure on that one). Apparently the V8 was their main synth during that period. I definitely recommend an EIII, I had one 7 or 8 years back, loved it (but sold it ...

Re: PRICES : the most heated yet absent debate

This is the best possible idea. While there are occasionally synths posted with ridiculous prices that some poor bastard falls for, in general, the most accurate demonstration of analog synths value currently is an average of sales on eBay. . I'm not so sure that it's "some poor bastard" / victim t...

Re: PRICES : the most heated yet absent debate

I've bought and sold several "classic" synths over the years (not as a dealer, just as a user/hobbyist) and have, on occasion, bought cheap and sold high.... not necessarily through exploitation of the market, but simply by following market values. I don't think I've ever sold anything for a horrifi...

Re: So I'm Thinking of Selling my SQ-80

Given the choice of an SQ80 and MS2000R (have owned both) I'd personally choose the SQ80. The Korg is good for (dare I say) generic cheesy house/techno but I found that I tended to make a sound too full & busy to be of much use as part of a track (but I guess that's a fault of my programming rather ...

Re: Emu SP1200 pricing

There are a few instruments who's reputation (i.e. list of users) automatically commands a high price rather than the instruments actual functionality-worth. The SP1200 being one of them. Not sure if these high prices are being paid by those that *know* the machines (and there are obviously plus poi...

Re: Oberheim Xpander: Potential Problems?

I read in a review (probably 10+ years ago in SOS or Music Technology (UK)) that the final few Xpanders made were quickly thrown together and are best avoided.... of course serial numbers would be handy to identify these.... and there's every chance that these"dodgy" units would have gone south by n...

Studio |Electronics SE1 Question....

Can any SE1 users/owners tell me how to get to the VCO volume / Mixer parameter so that I can adjust each VCO volume independently? I just picked one up but it doesn't have a manual.... or any Mixer knobs unlike the MiniMoog that it's attempting to emulate  Thanks in advance.... Oh, and I woul...

.... the Series III could only sample at 100kHz for mono samples,
Stereo sampling halved that rate to 50kHz.

I also read that the Series III doesn't have all of the synthesis functionality of the IIx.
