Re: New MPC flagship.

all I can really say is f**k numark. akai is dead. not saying this won't be a successfully selling product, but akai is dead. They're just another m-audio now with the added price for shoving their "real MPC pads" into more plastic boxes. All these boxes are metal. .. but will probably suffer the s...

Re: Bitwig Studio

I am a linux software developer. I run windows though for my audio PC (and use an octatrack because generally I hate it) anyways, they'd have to make a liveCD/USB linux distribution (which plenty already exist) with their software installed. Any user could do that by taking an existing liveCD and pu...

Re: What We Talk About When We Talk About Synths

What's funny is I find it self-perpetuates. IE I buy a synth, read about it online and find people saying it's good for basses but otherwise bla bla bla, or that it has this problem or that problem.. next thing I know I'm approaching the synth I just bought with preconceived notions about what it's ...

Re: wanting to get a hardware sampler (sp 303? or suggestion

I have the SP-303. It's kinda fun for the price, the FX are really great. Sampling is slow (to save to card). Importing is easy if you can find a smartmedia adapter, you just save the WAV's to the card and then there's a function on the unit to "import wav's to sp-303 format" and then it loads the W...

Re: Replacement DX-7 9.426Mhz crystal - source?

For closure, in case someone else needs the part..

I contacted Yamaha customer service through their website and on the next business day received a response. They found me the part number (# QU005200) and will ship me it for $15 total. Very happy!

Replacement DX-7 9.426Mhz crystal - source?

Hey guys Anyone know where I could find a replacement crystal for my DX-7? Mine is toast, the magic oscillations have gooped out onto the board. http://desmond.yfrog.com/Himg878/scaled.php?tn=0&server=878&filename=5tryp.jpg&xsize=640&ysize=640 Cannot find on digikey or mouser. Also, how close to exa...

Re: ROMpler sample packs?

Well I don't want a 8 gigabyte DVD of gregorian chants recorded in every church, which from reviews seems to be a lot of what sample packs are sold? I just want a decent collection of usable "real world"-esque sounds. pianos, horns, strings. They don't even have to fake a real thing since I'm using ...

Re: ROMpler sample packs?

hmm.. actually those ebay sample packs would be good enough, although I feel bad supporting them. I did once and they're almost always someone else's sample pack ripped verbatim and resold.

ROMpler sample packs?

Anyone have any they like?

I'm looking for basically like a dump of an entire ROMpler's set of waves that I could then import to my octatrack and compose with. I don't need a ton of multisamples, every few octaves would be good enough. Anyone know of sample packs like this?

Re: POST ANY INTERESTING EBAY / CRAIGSLIST LISTINGS HERE!!!

 this has to be a scam, but the language is believable. Only one stock looking picture though so idk. emailed anyway ;) cs-80 for $1500 http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/msg/2777730053.html this actually passed all my "spam" smell tests. The language was not copied from an ebay ad, the pic...

Re: Beggining into synths

If you are okay with buying off the internet, I would suggest one of the "cheaper" Junos (such as the alphas). They are a blast to program and there's enough memory to save presets for performance. LOL - I didn't know "iterating through a flat list of options on a tiny LCD with a single wheel, then...

Re: the scariest and coolest MIDI controller ever?

I saw that second video a while ago, I showed it to the Industrial Design students I was tutoring at the time. I think what he's doing is freakin rad, must be a b***h to move them to shows though. The first video is actually his "new" setup that is more portable / easier to setup at shows apparently
