Re: Small analog strings synth

Most string synths aren't very big but if size and budget are a factor I'd recommend the Elka Rhapsody 490. Though it doesn't have much in the way of controls, it sounds really nice, usually goes for super cheap and is probably the smallest one I've seen for proper divide-down strings.

Re: Yamaha CS70M price check

Just for the record/archives, I found one and paid $2500 for it. It has Kenton midi installed and had just had a full checkup/service. $2K CAD seems like not too bad of a price to me, I'd certainly pay that much again if this were stolen/destroyed/etc. While I'm not going to go so far as to say it's...

Re: Current Odyssey Prices

Is it a Mk.1 or Mk.2? Some of the black/gold ones are Mk.1. They're supposed to be very rare but I've seen quite a few for sale over the years, which leads me to believe they aren't as rare as they're made out to be. Either way, if the sliders are decent and everything works, then it's a good price ...

Re: JP4 vs SH7

RE: plikestechno You could very well be right that different revisions of the SH7 could cause big differences in the sound, and of course individual unit calibration differences can be massive. Mine was a 100V unit and, though I used it with a proper transformer, I couldn't help but think that maybe...

Re: JP4 vs SH7

The SH7.... ehh... not so much. It has great features and looks good on paper but just didn't have "it"... soundwise it was really nothing special. What is "it" that some of you ex-SH7 owners were expecting from it? Did you expect it to sound muddy and squishy like an SH5? It seems people really lo...

Re: JP4 vs SH7

I've owned both and still own a JP4. In my opinion, the JP4 is a very special, "more than the sum of its features" synth. One of my desert island synths for sure. Not exactly the most standard, flexible polysynth, but it's capable of far more timbrally that the front panel would suggest The SH7.... ...

Re: The Synth Spa--Refurbished Juno 106 source

I sent them (actually a him, I think it's one dude) my MKS-30 voice board that had a dying chip. I had tried to remove it and do the acetone soak fix, but despite borrowing my friend's fancy $300 desoldering vacuum I managed to break several legs off getting it out. I'm no slouch with a soldering ir...

Yamaha CS70M price check

I haven't seen a Yamaha CS70m for sale for quite awhile so I guess there's no such thing as a current going rate but... has anyone been watching these over the last couple of years? Any reports on what they've sold for? Ballpark ranges are fine. I've been out of the synth-buying loop for a bit and a...

Re: Korg • PS-3200 - mystery synth

It's true. The EGs are the suck. I personally disagree with this, I think the envelopes are amazing although they are not standard adsr. I guess it just depends on what you want to do with them, but I agree with everything else you said. I think they do the plucky snappy thing quite well, but to me...

Re: Wes Taggart and My Modded SH-2

Thanks for the review, good to know!
I'm in Ohio and have a steadily mounting pile of synth that need service, I'm glad there is someone semi-local.
