Most boxes full of DSPs tend to be expensive ;) Its an extremely configurable and extensible system with a wonderful editing GUI and a nice hardware UI as well. You can take it places most synths can't go both literally and figuratively. It costs quite a bit less than a lot of synths and does quite ...

I wouldn't dare tackle the FS from the front panel. However, when you get to the point of using a softsynth, there really is little difference (in regard to programming) from using a software editor. At least in regard to the FS, I fear to think what an adequate UI for the thing would have looked l...

The main problem with FM (or PM if we're talking Yamaha synths) is not so much learning the new paradigm, which can be done with a little study and effort, but how awful the UIs are on just about every FM synth produced...the mighty DX7 had a two-line LCD and a value slider. The FS1R is a nightmare ...

Mostly VA is "pretty close" but its extremely hard to model non-linearity like the unexpected chaos you get from a real electrical circuit, especially when feedback is involved...like a resonant filter on the edge of oscillation...they have very individual characteristics depending on the circuit to...

A problem I've been seeing when looking at other threads under soft synths is the OS being used. It seems that Windows Vista is not a very good OS if you are planning on using soft synths. Could someone please help clarify why this is so? Also, all of the laptops that I've been interested in come w...

I have an XT coming in the mail today (hopefully). The previous owner didn't like it because of that digital "shimmer" the sound gave off. I'm kind of sensitive to that as well, so let's see what i think of it. You'll find that you can actually get some wonderful warm, smooth, subtle, morphing timb...

I hate you for posting that picture. I sold my Lambda under the influence of buyer's remorse/guilt after buying my QS8. Almost sold the Rhodes too but snapped out of it at the last minute. LOL! :) Every time I think of selling mine, I play it for a bit and am quickly cured of my madness. Its a fun ...

Will is also fond of running Allison's voice through the MS20's pitch-to-CV converter. Listen for it all through Felt Mountain - great effect, especially when the tracking glitches at the end of notes :)

You'd do better with a microphone, an Emax and its primitive time streching algorhythm ;)

Thanks everyone for your input. I recently have been deciding on whether I should build a new computer with really good resources or keep the one I have and keep all my hardware stuff. thanks. Hi Chas, nice to see you this side of the fence. You could always do both ;) I was a dyed-in-the-wool hard...
