Lost Terrain - Serge Modular Explorations

Originally this was going to be a distributed CD but I've decided to release it free on the web as MP3s as well as a lossless FLAC version: http://carbon111.com/lost_terrain.html Lost Terrain contains three audio journeys powered by the wonderful Serge Modular Synthesizer. These pieces are composed ...

Re: juno 60 vs jx3p vs polysix.

Before this gets moved to Buyer's Guide, I'd like to chime in on the side of the Juno 60: http://www.carbon111.com/juno60.html :thumbright:

I used it a ton on Shadow, including the arpeggiated tone on "Arrival": http://carbon111.com/music/arrival.mp3

Re: why macbooks?

A Mac is like buying an Audi with the hood welded shut. A PC is like a Jeep with dirt in the gas line. The fact that we've been so brainwashed to think either system is better than the other (or even acceptable as-is) is a monument to advertising and pop culture. As a graphic artist and musician I'v...

Re: Prophet 08'

Strengths, weaknesses? Strengths: Great intuitive UI, decent mod routing, good sound, flexible. Weaknesses: Filter is mediocre (also, the rez in 12db mode is nil), some construction concerns (keybed, encoders), some bugs (glide, encoder buffering). I used the P'08 quite a bit on my album "Shadow" a...

Re: Moog Rogue - Tackling the foam

The stuff I used was a form of styrofoam. They use that in buildings and it's lifespan is comparable to that of the building. I'll still keep an eye on it though :-) Good man! :thumbright: ...I'd still be careful, regardless. The thing that keeps flexible plastics flexible, the so-called "plasticis...

Re: Moog Rogue - Tackling the foam

Any kind of foam is not a stable plastic - never put any foam in a synth. It will degrade in as little as six years. If a gasket is still wanted, nomex (carbon fiber), thin polycarbonate sheet or anything stable would be much better. Felt is also a no-no. :( Toris was indeed lucky that his hadn't co...

Re: My Mattson Mini Modular page is up now...

Thank you for a nice page carbon111. Are you planning on adding some sound samples of its' capabilities as well? There are a couple of demos on that page in the MMM Media section. As I stated on the page: "I am currently working on some demos of my MMM for this site but, in the meantime, let me sha...

Re: My Mattson Mini Modular page is up now...

Hi carbon111, looks great! if I remember correctly this is not your first modular isn't it? so how do you find the Mattson? No, it's not my first. (Could you tell? ) ...when I first was bitten by the modular bug some years ago, I assembled a decent Synthesizers.com system that I later sold lo...

Re: Prophet 600 VCO's or DCO's?

This is mostly Prophet600:

http://www.carbon111.com/music/blackriver.mp3

And the stuff that isn't distorted violin or guitar is P600 as well:

I've always liked the beast.

Re: Prophet 600 VCO's or DCO's?

Definately VCO. Completely analog signal path.

The P600 uses the same VCO chips as the Prophet5 = CEM3340

...it uses different VCF chips though. (CEM3372 instead of the P5's CEM3320)

Re: JB Solaris - Is it really worth $3500?

Z, as far as I know,I never received any emails from you about the Solaris. Here's my email: carbon111 (at symbol) verizon.net Cornutt is correct, the last I heard, the polyphony of the Solaris will be no less than 15 voices - and that's when using every single feature . BTW - here's the up-to-date ...

Re: Native Instruments Maschine

As a long time MPC user and also a long time Ableton Live user... I must admit that I have pre-ordered the Maschine. After watching all the videos... it seems like it'll be, if it works as NI says it does, a good alternative to the MPC. Anyone else into the NI Maschine? I'm probably going to pick u...
