The old Akai MP series is what i used originally. Still bloody good at what they do and cheap as chips. Check Ebay. They are old but pretty resiliant. Naw. Midi Patchbays can be set to send , well, whatever transmitted, to anything on the end. YOU decide what gets filetered or not. I tend to send mine from a PC sequencer but you can use most any decent sequencer with a semi decent spec to control most anything. A Start/Stop from your master device...
