KAWAI GMega LX / KC20 .mp3 page

I uploaded KAWAI GMega LX page on my site.
http://deepsynthesis.net

It's a PCM playbacker with unique samples. I made a Emagic SoundDiver editor and layered 4 MIDI channles like Roland's Chase or KORG's Wavesequence.

I have a casio DG20 digital guitar that the signal is digital all the way to and including the ADSR, but then goes analog to the filter stage, which is only a fixed LP filter, not a true VCF/DCF style variable filter. IIRC, DG20 uses CASIO's SD synthesis engine - DCO-DCA-VCF architecture of HZ/HT s...

FZ is not so lo-fi - 16-bit, 36kHz was much higher spec than other samplers at that time (1987). I guess it has the analog filter used in CASIO HT-3000/6000 series. It seems to be 2-pole, and does not self-oscillate, but it does sound warm. You can create waveforms by adding 1st-48th harmonics with ...

EX-800 and POLY-800II have MIDI SysEx, and you can store your patches in your PC.

Note that the Mod adds two important parameters - cutoff and resonance. As they are just knobs and can't be stored in patches.

Thanks, solderguy!
And I agree with rockmanrock. Ensoniq may have limited the parameter range for ESQ-1 filter. And it seems to be the key difference from PVS. ESQ-1's 8-bit waveforms have good enough quality I think.

I have .mp3 pages for both ESQ and DW.
I think DW sounds warmer, and more analog as Sir Ruff pointed out.
I hear ESQ uses the same filter chip as Prophet-VS, but my VS sounds more powerful.
ESQ wins in its wierd modulations. I wish DW had ring modulator or filter FM....

As YOOZER pointed out, the MIDI bandwidth limitation is the problem. Just look at a MIDI monitor while playing a poly-AT keyboard. You'll see a lot of data stream. When you push the keys, every subtle fluctuation of your finger is translated and transmitted as polyphonic aftertouch. It's fun to play...

I'm not attacking softsynths. I like my Reaktor 2.3 which came for $50 - definitely worth much more. Good thing is good, whether soft or hard. But I often hesitate to go soft. PC gets older soon and you have to pay for every updates, while vintage harwares stand still.... ***** Sorry! I'm getting of...

I tend to feel softsynths a little bit expensive for what they are.
