Re: Micing Synths

i have been doing this a bunch lately using both a cheap guitar practice amp and my roland kc60. you can get really creative with tonal coloring if you have a variety of mics. i do more extreme things things like put an audix d6 right up on the tweeter of my kc60, or point two or three amps at one m...

Re: Good Gate Compressor for drums and hiss?

You can't go wrong with the Alesis 3630 - actually you can. [-X i have one and it's just barely good enough to be usable. it's kinda noisy, especially when using heavy compression with a lot of make up gain. the gate does not operate smoothly no matter how you set the release time, so you will like...

Re: a few questions about Auralex and its ilk...

i feel your pain. i'm working on the acoustics of a 350+ sq ft room with 12 ft ceilings that has huge bass problems. i have some auralex foam and bass traps that seem to be helping, but clearly i have a lot more to do. this will be tricky because my room also has to be a bedroom, office and artist s...

Re: A Simple Electribe Thread

I'd love to see an ERX (deluxe, improved version of the ER-1), and an ESQX[?] (an Electribe with no synth or sampler, just 8 tracks of x0x-sequencing goodness, with the accompanying 128 light-up buttons :D ). i'd buy either one (or both 8) ) in a heartbeat if these ever came out. korg really needs ...

Re: Your dream synth ?

it would be something like an 8 voice poly evolver with a 16 track midi sequencer - realtime and x0x style recording, user sampling, an ms20 style patchbay that is hz/v and v/oct compatible and a f**k internal power supply!

make sure the files you are trying to load are numbered properly -

00.wav
01.wav
02. wav
...

etc.

Re: Bought my first sampler(korg es-1)

... just wanted to know if theres any tips or anything people should tell me(a newbie to sampling). sample everything. 8) get a flash/tape/minidisc recorder and a cheap condenser mic and record every sound you hear. make breakfast, walk around outside, argue with your neighbor, go to the mall etc.....

Re: Power amps and passive speakers

this article may help - http://onstagemag.com/ar/performance_pa ... /index.htm

it does go over a lot of basic stuff, but gets useful about half way down the page when they talk about power ratings and wiring, and again at the bottom talking about impedance.

Re: Midi setup

a midi controller and that soundcard would certainly work, but hauling around/setting up a desktop for live shows will be a b***h. in the future, you'll probably want to invest in a laptop with a usb/firewire interface. if you go with a usb interface now (like this - http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend...

Re: Any Cool synthesizer action

run anything and everything into the esp input on my ms20 and trigger the oscillators to track the input. works great for drum loops (think aphex twin), bass, guitar, or just about anything else! my favorite though doesn't even involve synths - er1 with the delay cranked overdriving the mic input on...

Re: Balanced outputs? On vintage synths?

as far as the cables go, three conductors (trs and xlr) will help to reduce noise and interference picked up in the line because the third conductor acts as a shield and does not carry part of the audio signal. Actually, regular two conductor leads have one conductor for the shield which doesn't ca...
