Re: New DSI instrument!

I think it sounds simply awesome once the sweet spots are found (which can take some time, admittedly). The effects are not good though... Also, have you tried to mix the separate audio outputs externally? Makes a big difference. At the risk of getting further off topic (this is a Tempest thread), ...

Re: Video clips from "classic" movies featuring electr

Has anybody (Micke, et al) got clips from the first or last scenes of Total Recall? Jerry Goldsmith's score for that film is one of the best examples of an early 90's blend of orchestration and synthesizers.

And, do any of you know what sort of gear Jerry had in 1990?

Re: New DSI instrument!

My Minimoog Voyager's oscillators only need a little fine tuning once in a while, then they're dead on. If they can make it work on the Voyager and LP, then "Rave and Dodger" could make it work on one of their collaborations.

Re: New DSI instrument!

you know, i just opened up my OB 8 and there is barely anything in there and we are talking about a synth from 1983! there are about four core circuit boards ... all very tidy, and lot's of ic's. it cannot be that hard to manufacture a vco, vca, env, and vcf ic can it? i mean this is the 21st centu...

Re: New DSI instrument!

Same goes for Oberheim models. Not the same as Moog or Sequential but just as good.

Re: New DSI instrument!

Okay, after the success of Tempest, can anybody speculate what kind of instrument Dave Smith will design next? What about a virtual marimba or vibraphone that you play with mallets? Speculation: It will be some kind of effects box thing... I always wanted someone to make a mixing desk with built in...

Re: New DSI instrument!

Now that this thread is nearly a year old can a moderator change the title to "DSI Tempest" maybe? With NAMM coming up again I keep seeing this and thinking it's another new DSI instrument. Me too! haha Okay, after the success of Tempest, can anybody speculate what kind of instrument Dave Smith wil...

Re: New DSI instrument!

I don't know that I'd use the Tempest as a stand-alone synth. You could but it would be much easier (and cheaper) for you if you wanted to augment your LP with a Mopho Keyboard or, for roughly the same amount of money, add a Tetra to it, controlling the Tetra with the LP. Frankly, for me, that woul...

I'd say "Har de har har," if I didn't know about the EWI.

Re: New DSI instrument!

Could I make a comment about this "issue"? One of the things I've learned about Moog and DSI is that the latter has taken great steps to integrate its previously-acquired knowledge of digital circuitry with its longer-standing knowledge of analog synthesis. Moog is a company which has never ventured...

Re: New DSI instrument!

Anyone on here got one of these now and if so how's it working out? I have one, can't even explain how much I love this little box of beats. It's so much more than I thought it would be. A true keeper. I've been waiting to post about it's attributes and my opinion, as I can't seem to find any bad t...

Re: Video clips from "classic" movies featuring electr

No I don't think anything from Ladyhawke has been posted yet. Do you mean the part that kicks in after the string intro at 0:28? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bugi35v1CKk Powell and Cottle were both big users of the Prophet 5 so that's the main synth used on this score. Cottle's DX-7 and a PPG wav...

Re: Video clips from "classic" movies featuring electr

I haven't been paying strict attention. Has anybody yet posted the beginning sequence from Ladyhawke? Great synth & Rhodes sequence put on by Andrew Powell and Richard Cottle before Andrew's score kicks in.
