Re: LinnDrum alternative soundchip resources?

Thanks - I'll take a trawl though those as I root though my various sample libraries... :thumbleft:

Re: the above scan - it's amazing that $130 would get you three low quality drum samples back then...

Re: LinnDrum alternative soundchip resources?

This is interesting:- http://www.muzines.co.uk/articles/so-you-say/8474 "I had a complete set of my own drum sounds put on to Linn chips for me by Roger Linn prior to the recording of our first album. I went into Air studios for a day with our producer, Vic Coppersmith, recorded each of my drums ind...

Re: LinnDrum alternative soundchip resources?

I just realised I should really have put this thread in "Samplers" - I've asked for it to be moved there. I've been chatting with Paolo@Synthmania who's been super-nice and helpful. He posted here a scan of the alternative chips from Linn: https://www.gearslutz.com/board/electronic-music-instrument...

Re: LinnDrum alternative soundchip resources?

Thanks - while searching around I did come across references to that Electrongate site and while I hadn't been to that particular page (I'll check those out - thanks!), there's a similar one for the DMX I think ( http://www.electrongate.com/dmxfiles/eproms.html ) which I did listen to, but that's co...

Re: LinnDrum alternative soundchip resources?

Linn itself had a decently large replacement soundchip library for the Linndrum that you could buy sounds from. SYCO in London also had a sound chip collection - I'm not sure yet whether they were offering the factory Linn sounds, and/or whether they were also making their own custom sounds (which w...

LinnDrum alternative soundchip resources?

Hey guys, I'm doing a deep dive on something, and (while I'm Googling around in the meantime) I wondered if anyone knew of any resources that have catalogued or sampled the various replacement drums chips for the LinnDrum (LM2)? I will trawl through my own archives (and sample libraries) for various...

Anyone know what this capacitor does on the board?
What it does is probably not that relevant - it needs to be replaced if you want to keep the synth working!

Whether that alone will fix the issue is anyone's guess - it might do, it might not. But replace it anyway, and go from there...

Re: Casio CZ-5000: Voice Crackling and Going out of Tune

"One of the voices"..?

It's not an analog synth, all voices are generated digitally, so it's not like one voice can die.

When one "voice" is going out of tune, are the other notes you play still in tune?

Re: Impossible to find 80s Sampled Sound FX

My guess would be they are not lifted film/orchestral samples at all, but arrange/FX flourishes from the same synths they're producing the track with. I don't know why you want them, but I'd suggest trying the same thing - using the synths you have to recreate those parts, I'm sure you could get clo...

Re: Hardware Synth prices and VSTs.

Well, the Behringer versions are pretty affordable. Apart from nostalgia, the old stuff really isn't as magic as their monetary value might suggest - and you can get the sounds, even the interface, in other, more modern and more flexible ways. I don't think the vintage synth market is ever going to ...

In general analog signals are continuous and digital signals have steps, no matter how small.
Sounds like the old "stair-stepped" digital audio misconception, which still seems to be exist.

Digital audio is not stair-stepped, that's just not how it works. If in doubt - research!

Re: Help me recreate this sound!

Search for "synth brass" in any synth you have. (And layer it with your buddy's "rawk" guitar power chords.) You're welcome! ;) It's about one of the simplest synth sounds you can make - a couple of sawtooth oscillators, slightly tuned apart, organ-style envelopes (fast attack and release, high sust...
