"One of the voices"..?
It's not an analog synth, all voices are generated digitally, so it's not like one voice can die.
When one "voice" is going out of tune, are the other notes you play still in tune?

Re: Impossible to find 80s Sampled Sound FX
My guess would be they are not lifted film/orchestral samples at all, but arrange/FX flourishes from the same synths they're producing the track with. I don't know why you want them, but I'd suggest trying the same thing - using the synths you have to recreate those parts, I'm sure you could get clo...

Re: Hardware Synth prices and VSTs.
Well, the Behringer versions are pretty affordable. Apart from nostalgia, the old stuff really isn't as magic as their monetary value might suggest - and you can get the sounds, even the interface, in other, more modern and more flexible ways. I don't think the vintage synth market is ever going to ...

Sounds like the old "stair-stepped" digital audio misconception, which still seems to be exist.
Digital audio is not stair-stepped, that's just not how it works. If in doubt - research!

Re: Help me recreate this sound!
Search for "synth brass" in any synth you have. (And layer it with your buddy's "rawk" guitar power chords.) You're welcome! ;) It's about one of the simplest synth sounds you can make - a couple of sawtooth oscillators, slightly tuned apart, organ-style envelopes (fast attack and release, high sust...

Re: Need identification of this keyboard
Hmm, it doesn't look like a W5 to me. No raised central display and the markings on the back don't match the Yamaha W5 at all. If anything, the profile is more Akai AX80-like (though I don't think it's one of those either). It's more hard-angled than the W5, it reminds me of something more Ensoniq-e...

Re: Arturia PolyBrute
Wow cool, how did you find that? It's not even published in any issue of SOS. It's from the next issue out soon - sometimes they put out a review of something early if the timing works out for usually social interest reasons. They usually announce it on the forum and put up a news piece on their si...

Re: Arturia PolyBrute
It's up *now*, because the Polybrute is launched and embargoes are lifted. But it was obviously published early, and then they caught it and removed the page until the official embargo time.

Re: What did Chicago use for the EP in Look Away?
Classic late 80s - layered DX7s and some other pad stuff in the background.
While this wasn't a David Foster production like the previous album, that's certainly a hallmark of his stuff.

Re: Roland JP-8000 Crashes When MIDI is Hooked Up
The traditional set up is to have MIDI local off on your synth. This means that when you play it, it directly does not make a sound (so you can use the keyboard to play any instrument in your DAW), and when you want to play the synth, you select a track in your DAW that routes MIDI back to the synth...
