Re: Synth Sound What Synth is it?

It's a Hoover-type sound/sample with some flanging on it.

Very typical 90s synth stab sound, you could recreate it with pretty much anything, although there are probably presets in 90s romplers that would get you close enough, when acid/rave/dance/techno was very much the thing...

Re: 90's synth sounds (A thirty year old hunt)

The piano is very typically Roland rompler - bright and compressed (brighter than the M1 standard for this of the time). Pick up a JV1080 module, or give the plugin a demo, and I'm sure you'll find the pianos in the piano presets, if that was used. Same for the strings. Similarly with the TX81Z - th...

Maybe they are just inundated from the demand? :?
Possibly. It does take quite some time to go a get a new fresh batch of download links off of the shelf in the warehouse...

Re: MPC Beats--new free version from Akai

It's the kind of download where you need to fill in a form, give them your email address, and then hope they one day get around to maybe sending you a download link. Tried with two different addresses now, still no download link four hours later... Maybe it's the intern's job to go through the email...

Re: "Casioheim" video

The CZ-101 was one of my first synths, and I programmed it to death - but of course I always wished for bigger, proper synths at the time. I used to chuckle when coming across patches named like "Oberheimy", and "PPG-ish" and stuff... What I realised later on (mostly when comparing them to emulation...

Not sure why you didn’t just google for the manual... it would have been quicker than making this post, and you’d already have the answer...

Re: Synths and Drum Machine in 'The Chauffeur

No, the SH-2 doesn't sound like the 101, or vice versa. I think the SH2 is related to the JP4 voice, and it's a darker, thicker meatier sound than the SH-101, which is more plastic-ey. I actually think the SH2 sounds fabulous, and was never much of a fan of the (once-)budget SH-101, much beloved by ...

Re: Yamaha RX11 Repair Thread

I'm a fan of Espen Kraft and all, but his claim that it is "one of the best drum machines ever made" is off-the-mark, in my opinion. I agree. Even at the time it was limited, being one of the earliest digital drum machines - it's dark sounding, inflexible, and completely out-shone by the machines t...

Re: Midi patchbay???

Sure, you just wouldn't be able to switch them independently if you have multiple devices on a single port, that's all, which will affect your planning of the patchbay setup.

Re: Could anyone help me to identify the synth

For me, it's less the sounds, as I can do that elsewhere - it's more about the orange lights... ;)

It would be nice to have that interface to control the later 4-partial romplers (eg the 5080 etc)...

I've owned a JD-800 since '94 and is my favorite synth of the 100+ I own.
Nice - why is it your favourite? Is it your only source of that era Roland digital sounds? Or maybe the interface really works for you?

Just curious...

Re: Musicianship and electronic music

I feel a bit lost without a keyboard, because everything then becomes very tedious to do, but then I can play (well enough for my needs) but plenty of people can't and aren't even interested in that kind of music. I remember going round to a guy's studio, probably in the mid-2000s. This guy did grea...

Re: which is the best roland JX to get?

Why someone would pay more for a JX3P than a JX-10 is beyond me. I know, but it's a fashion thing. People pay more now for CZ-101's than CZ1's. Seriously! The same is true for DX100 over something like a DX11. And probably why SH-101's are still going for around a grand. £1000+ for a damn SH-101 - ...
