Re: What recording chain...

Right now I have the E-mu 1820M. I record a few different ways (usually the first):

1 Avenson DI -> preamp -> 1820M
2 Avenson DI -> 1820M's preamp
3 just plugging into 1820M

Re: DI's for Synths

That would really depend on the next stage in your signal chain, as the DI would output mic level and the mixer line level. If you're going into a mic level input the mixer would overload it and result in more distortion. Also Mackie aren't exactly known for producing low noise, transparent gear. W...

Re: DI's for Synths

Now I'm really confused because I get a much better sound when I go through even a cheap DI instead of the line input on my Mackie.

Re: Synth examples, post them here.

'demo' of the moog voyager - my cover of "deep sleep" by devo. all synth sounds are from the voyager - no eq, no fx except reverb on one track. for this recording: voyager -> whirlwind di -> emu 1820M

They also used Daniel Millers Arp 2600. The bassline to nodisco was probably the prodigy and the photographic sequence is probably the 2600.

Re: Prophet five rev 2

Men Without Hats used the Prophet 5 on their first couple albums and their 2003 release, "no hats beyond this point". They have an amazing live DVD showing their 2 prophet 5's and Ensoniq Mirage setup. But why buy the DVD when you can watch it on youtube!

I'll give you 5 stars for being annoying. How can anyone take the VSE ratings so seriously? The secret is I logged in under multiple names and kept rating the omega a 1. There now relax and make beautiful music with the omega 8.

The new voyager looks great. I never use the stupid touch screen on my signature edition.

Of course I wasn't judging the synth based on its awful presets (I said it did funk sounds but I didn't say it did them well). It really does deserve to be ranked as least interesting polysynth. I don't remember ever getting a stuck note though.
