Re: Getting a Casio CZ5000 - hit me up on all the goodness!

Wow that's a lot of great info, Mad! I checked your website out, too - lots of CZ stuff there, I learnt heaps :)

Does the CZ5000 do sysex dumps of the sequencer only? or does everything get dumped all at once? Meaning, can it receive sysex just for the sequencer data?

Getting a Casio CZ5000 - hit me up on all the goodness!

I'm about to buy a CZ5000 from someone I know :D

Tell me everything there is to know about it - patches, tips and tricks, modifications, resource sites etc.

I have a CZ101 and SZ-1 sequencer - how hugely different is it to this??

Cheers, graham

Re: Casio FD-1 MIDI file player floppy disks DOS format

Best MIDI guitar I ever tried You have one of the MG series, or the PG series like mine with the built in synth? If you have an MG, you'll love the PG - it has lightning fast response when using the internal synth - better than any Roland setup ever done. Almost zero latency, unlike even the best R...

Re: Casio FD-1 MIDI file player floppy disks DOS format

I have more Casios that are not on that list - I must update it sometime. The EG-5 cassette guitar is one of my all-time favourites  Yes there are some great sounds in the VZ, I use its sounds a lot. It does some good bass guitars. I dump them on to RAM card and put it in my Casio guitar synth ...

Casio FD-1 MIDI file player floppy disks DOS format

Hello all! I have an ancient problem I need to solve. I've just bought a Casio FD-1 MIDI file player (a standalone floppy disk drive with a screen and MIDI ports in the back of it). Why you ask????!!!! Well, I'm a Casio collector :D I collect all of their weird and wonderful musical instruments! It ...

Re: De Facto Vintage Drum Machine Samples???

But what makes them not equal?? Does one sound have reverb on it and another is just dry?? Or one sample brighter and punchier than another? A digital recording is a digital recording - so long as it was done at 16bit 44k and not clipped you're not going to get any loss from the original raw machine...

Re: De Facto Vintage Drum Machine Samples???

Capturing your own samples into a modern computer sound card is not going to be any worse than "real" libraries you speak of - they just did exactly what you did. These old machines are 8-bit/less than 44k quality; you're not going to make them sound any better than that without fudging the samples ...

Re: Casio FZ1

I hate that when it happens. I bought a Casio FD-1 off ebay a while ago (FD-1 is the FZ-1 floppy drive built into a standalone case and is a MIDI data filer/MIDI file player). It was in perfect condition when it left the seller (a shop) and when it arrived home the package had been crushed in one pl...

Re: CASIO CZ-101 - Battery mod gone wrong?

You didn't have the batteries in the backup mod in the wrong polarity?? Or the connections you wired up that went to these batteries was the wrong polarity? There is only one reason why a power supply would get red hot, and that's if it's working too hard, meaning too much current is being drawn - w...

Re: Samples, soundfonts, gigfiles, oh my!

I am the soundfont expert  I use soundfonts all the time, and mostly make my own. Soundfonts are good in that they are a somewhat universal standard (invented by E-mu/Creative) that many software players will recognise, and some hardware players. They are a neat package of whole instrument setu...

Re: Your latest musical purchase

I have two of those TX802's - they are absolutely fantastic. Except that I believe I have discovered a little known firmware bug. When you use the individual outs, sometimes the patches going to a particular allocated output socket changes to another output randomly. For example, if you have a bass ...
